Hi, everyone-

I've been hearing some of the details about chipperman's research and testing process with this soundproofing stuff. Every time I hear what he is doing, I am amazed! I don't know how much of his techniques he would want me to reveal, but I can tell you that he is sparing no amount of time and expense on this project.

From what I understand, the materials requireds to properly cut down the sound volume are expensive, and after testing, some of them just plain don't work, so it's a very costly testing process. I'm sure the cost of the materials is what kept Honda from doing a better job in the first place.

One thing I find very interesting, is that different types of noise are made at different speeds, and RPMs. So, besides doing testing in the different configurations that I mentioned in my previous post, chipperman is driving the car with different configurations on his ears! This means different types of special headphones and ear plugs, which will cancel out certain frequencies, and will allow certain ones through. This helps to isolate the different types of noise being made, where it is coming from, and at what speeds and RPMs that it is being produced.

I can hardly wait to test out his final product! Mostly, I am selfish, and worried about my own hearing, but I have told him not to rush the process. I want the best product available, and I'm willing to wait until the research and testing is properly done.

I'll do my best, to keep you guys informed on what's happening with this project.

-Pete

Wow, I'm impressed by the thoroughness of the job you're doing chipperman. Looking forward to hearing the ultimate results, and costs for a kit when it becomes available.

(As you can see, this post contributes absolutely nothing to the discussion, an exists solely to give me a bookmark to return to this post as new information becomes available )

I am also VERY impressed with the amount of testing going on for this kit.
Chipperman's dedication and thoroughness is what I expect in a custom job and not just ANY universal do-it-yourself kit.
Special thanks to Kodokan aswell for your excellent indirect customer service.

Please speak up, I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!!!

I have a lot of experience in this area as I used to do aircraft sound deadening. Most of the cost of material produced for aircraft is due to fire requirements and certification. Chipperman is dead on in his choice of material. Many companies produce these products. In fact, I had researched the company that makes dynomat and they also make all of the other materials needed.

I had checked the dB in the car before I did mine and had a reading of 85 dB on the A scale at 70 mph constant speed with the top up. This is quite loud. 70 dB by comparison seems very reasonable.

While I had some of the sound deadening done by a local stereo shop, I know that Chipperman has found some areas that were not taken care of in my car. Primarily in the trunk area, and probably the wheel wells. As for the spare tire area, this was done and has two 8" drivers installed in a sub box now.

I for one will be in for a kit when it is available as I know this will should make huge improvements even over what I had done already.

As for after market exhaust, I think most of the noise inside of the car is not coming from the noise coming out of the pipe but from the exhaust resonating through the cabin. I am planning to changing to an Amuse dual in the future and hope this will result in improved tone. I feel that the car would be louder at full sprint but would see very little difference at highway constant speeds if these other issues are addressed.

If any one has any input on exhaust regarding sound and noise level please let me know. You can also tell me if you think I am full of shit regarding the exhaust; as though you wouldn't.

I'm definitely interested in this. At 52 my hearing is bad enough (too much rock'n'roll in my youth ) and I'd like to keep what I have left.

My car is bone stock, and it'll remain that way for the forseeable future. No CAI, no exhaust or anything else, and I don't plan on doing anything to the stereo either.

chipperman, I would be more than happy to pay for a kit (for reasonable cost, of course). You deserve to get back your R&D costs. I love the sound of the car, but the road noise is a lil much at 60mph and up. I have to pull over to talk on my cell. Car is loud.

The diversity of knowledge of the members on this board never ceases to amaze me.

I don't know squat about how the different products work together (I know more after reading the post though).

What I do know is that I want the kit when it is available.

Thanks for all of your work chipperman

Take your time chipperman.
A 10 to 12 decibel drop would be fantastic !
The uninitiated may not realize that bumping decibels from 70dB to 80dB makes something 10 times as loud!
