Default Speed-controlled volume (SCV) & speed sensor wire

Months ago, I tapped into the white w/black stripe wire under the passenger dash (speed sensor wire) so my DCI unit would automatically control the volume of my stereo based on my speed (SCV feature). It worked just fine, until I read (and was tempted by) a post here...

I just cut the original factory wire which continued on to the convertible top (I assume). This allowed me to lower the top while moving, but for some reason, even though the DCI SCV wire is still connected to the wire coming out of the wire harness, SCV isn't working. (On the other hand, I *can* lower the top while rolling slowly!)

Anyone have a clue on how I can get SCV back *and* leave the convertible top wire disconnected?

I don't know but I'm really interested in how you got automatic volume control to work. What parts do you need to do this and is there a tutorial some where?
