Messing with OE emissions equipment is a Federal offense. Do people do it? Yes. Do they get caught? Depends on where you live and how strict they are with emissions testing and visual inspections. In most states, you'd get away with it. Do I think it's wrong to go without a cat? Not really. I was thinking about it myself. I'd be willing to bet this car runs cleaner without a cat than some of these cars and trucks on the road with cats. Emissions are a function of how much gas you are burning. So, an S2000, burning 10 gallons a week of gas without a cat is not much worse if any than an SUV burning 40 gallons a week with a cat. Not many people think of it like that.
