Spring spacers found - after 500 miles
Hey guys...
After aprox. 500 miles on my S2K...I've found all five spring spacers on the driver's side front suspension. All the others were taken out, so it seems that who ever PDI'ed my car just plain forgot to do all 4.
Should I be worry about anything?...possible damage? The car has not been driven very hard as I am still in the break-in period.
We all know about the warning from Honda that states failure to remove spacers might cause damage. However are there any documented damage that is actually caused by the spacers left in? I understand that there are those with spacers still in who has been unknowingly driving their S2K for as much as a few thousand miles...any reported damage?
Lastly, I assume that the alignment is pretty much off...is there anything thing else that I should demand from the dealer for this obvious negligence?
Thanks.

How did you identify that the spring spacers were still attached? What do they look like?
I have a month old '02 and have looked through the wheels and around the wheel well and haven't noticed anything unusual. But I'm not sure what the spacers look like, and wasn't sure if I need to remove the entire wheel to be completely confident that the dealer removed the spacers.
Thanks for the information.

If you still have the spacers on...you will not miss identifying it. They are big rubber pieces that separate the coils in the springs.
Just looking at it is not enough for the front 2 wheels tho. You really need to jack the car up and reach around to the back of the spring to feel for them. Again, if you have it...you will definately know that it should not be there.
For the wheels in the rear...you can pretty easily identify them if you just get under the car.

I posted a picture of what they look like in that thread.
and 500 miles is nothing compared to my 7500, or what some guys did in 2 years.

Thanks for the response...
So there's no perceivable damage to your S2K after you pull the rest of the spacers correct?
I feel much better now. To be honest, the suspension seems to be very sturdy and any conceivable damage that can be caused by the spacers would likely be the result of a catastrophic pot hole. I don't see how the rubber can actually bend or snap the springs. I'm just glad that I finally got them all out.

500 miles- your car is still a virgin!!!
mine had over 6,000 when i found the spacer last week- (after driving hard for a year and a half).
have not noticed any unusual tire wear, the ride is the same...
and i do have the extended warranty just in case the rear transfer case suffered damage that i am not able to detect yet!
my guess is that your car is probably fine-
sure would be nice if honda would come up with a solution to this (some good ideas posted on the board included painting the spacers yellow so they can be seen).
