Squeaky Hardtop but Quiet Softop?
Hey guys,
I lowered my car today and for some unknown reason my hardtop began squeaking like crazy! The squeaks are coming from the passenger side latch area. I took the hardtop off and greased up every spot that the hardtop touches the body of the car.
I thought it was fixed but 5 min. later the squeak came back!
I then decided to again take off the hardtop and this time roll with the soft top up. It had ZERO squeaks!!! It was amazingly quiet.
Is there ANY fix for this?? I really love the way the hardtop looks but the squeak was seriously driving me insane...any help would be greatly appreciated!

Immediately after my HT was installed it squeaked and rattled like crazy. I put up with the noise for about a day, then went to the dealership and bought Shin Etsu silicone lube and applied it to all the soft black rubber seals on the outside edges of the hard top/windshield where the HT mates to the windshield, body, and around the windows.
My '06 S2K now has over 50K miles on it, and the HT is on the car year round; about every six months or so I apply some Shin Etsu silicone lubricant on all rubber surfaces. The HT has not needed any adjustments.
This may help quiet things down too... For latch rattles the dealer can give you some EPT Sealant (kind of like foam weather stripping), it really doesn't take very much to perform the fix below:
Clickie ---> Squeaks and Rattling Latch Fix
I performed the fix, AND tied down the latch hooks on each side of the lowered soft top with plastic cable ties (rubber bands work too); now my hard top is very, very, quiet - even on the bumpiest roads.
