So what production cars came with a Start Button prior to the S2000? Obviously race cars and aftermarket ricers have it, but were there cars that came with a start button from the factory (that weren't something like an F40 or ultra-exotic)?

The S2000's start button is really more of a gimmick to make the car feel more race inspired. And modern day systems make sense to have a start button if there is no real key (keyless go). Other than that I can think of a reason why another car would have it.

Actually, It is not just a gimmick. It is there for racing purposes. If you spin out\stall you can restart the car with your left hand which allows your (busy) right hand to steer\shift.

I don't buy it. I've found that after spinning while racing it is more of a hindrance. If I stall after spinning out, I still have to turn the key. The button is an extra step.

Isn't the key already turned?

Ha, yea the key should still be in the on position after spinning out. Instinct would still cause you to reach for the key though IMO.

At least until you got used to it.

If I remember correctly, you have to turn the car off then on again when stalling. Just clutching in and pressing the start button won't do it.

I don't see that being true. I've stalled before and just pused the button and it started right back up.

No I stalled my car a lot when I got my new clutch - you don't need to turn the key again. Just clutch and hit the button.

There is no need to turn the key back, the ignition is either on or off... and it doesn't shut off from a stall. However, a hot stalled engine will require some extra cranking to fire back up, so maybe he just didn't crank it enough.

^^ I don't even have to push the clutch! little off topic but I'll brag anyway I got rid of the clutch interlock and LOVE it! The best part is being able to start the car without getting in, highly recommended mod.
