Stereo Question
Another newbie question...
OK, I am sure you all know the factory stereo ('02) is for the birds (My Grand Cherokee puts it to shame which is sad). As I have poked around my car, I cannot figure out what to do for an upgrade while maintaining the stock and collectible appeal of an S2K. Secondly, I actually use the "toggle" stereo contols on the left of the dash which eliminates replacing the head unit.
When I was younger I used to appreciate almost obnoxious car audio equipment. All I am really looking to do now is add some volume, hopefully be able to "feel" the music to an extent etc..
Any suggestions??
Thanks much !!
Mike

You might get more attention in the electronics forum (and a moderator will probably move this thread there shortly).
That said:
1) replace the front speakers - the stock ones are for the birds - you can get a decent pair for $100-$150.
2) get a pair of Lucid's rear speakers - www.lucidautomotive.com
When you order a set of rear speakers he sends you a new set of panels. That way, if you decide to go back to stock you can pop in your old panels. These are the panels behind the seats.
Makes a world of difference. I wasn't convinced at first and have gone a year without the rears, however several of my Arizona S2000 buddies have them and the sound convinced me. Mine should be here in AZ any day now
Also, Lucid offers a device called the PAC SWI-X which lets you replace the head unit and still use the controls.

It depends on how much you're willing to spend, and who you want doing the work (you, or a shop). Lucid sells some good stuff for reasonable prices, and you can always take his stuff ot a shop for the install. If you feel comfortable doing some work yourself, check out my webpage for some install instructions, some wiring pin-outs, and some info on the PAC. You can also pick up the PAC at just about any local stereo shop for about $50-60.
I was very skeptical of the Lucid behind the seat speakers which I bought. I had the installers at Circuit City put in an Alpine tuner with XM capibility and the Lucid rear speakers. Man, it sounds way better than stock. No commericials. Just song after song, no static and I only listen to the kind of music I like. The installer said the Lucid speakers were easy to install and very clean. Rock on!........
Hey Gang!
I really appreciate the replies! It is nice to hear options/ideas. I think I will keep the factory head unit and go from there. Behind the seat speakers sound like a nice move too. To keep this "on topic" remember this is for an '02 S2K
As far as amplifiers and a discreet and not obnoxious amount of bass (but there), what did you do? I hate sounding like a "newbie" considering I have been a Jeep enthusiast my whole life and know what ignorant questions "look like" (any Jeep questions, pleas ask) but as I repsect this BB and know you all know a hell of a lot more than I regarding S2K's. Any feedback (again) will be greatly appreciated.

Lucid's Rear speakers = #1 upgrade I've done
I bought from lucid the Rears and new side speakers along with the SWIX upgrade after purchasing a new Pioneer 7400 deck. The SWIX was a pain the butt, along with upgrading and splicing the wires to the harness (mainly because I don't read directions). The speakers are a must from Lucid since they have been pre-tested and fit, especially the rear speakers. The wiring was simple to the back if you have Rick's Console cover (the #2 upgrade).
Good luck!
