Hi guys, I have a MY2001 and have a tough time hearing the stereo when the top's down driving on the freeway. I'm not a stereo expert, so my questions are:
1. I have a stock stereo. Is it possible to get better sound by just replacing the speakers or do I have to replace the system altogether?
2. If I can replace the speakers, what should I be shopping for? Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Thanks!!

Luv,
1) The system sounds 10 times better with just a better pair of speakers, but of course, the sky is the limit (no pun intended ) For serious top-down driving, though, I think you'll find the lack of power from the stock head to be a real problem. Many have gone with new heads and amps, many (including myself) have found new heads to be enough juice.
2) Shop for whatever you feel comfortable with...so many people, so many opinions. In the end, only you know what will make you happy, so go listen to a few at your local shop (and remember they'll sound vastly different in your baby).
Like shingles said, the Electronics forum is really the place to go for this question. Be prepared to ask a lot of questions, and be prepared to receive a LOT of opinions.

I added 6.5" JL Audio coax speakers, amplifier and subwoofer (under driver seat) to my stock stereo and the improvement is quite spectacular. Great sound, even with the top down at 85mph.
