Too bad Honda doesn't make both version available. A limited edition Type R with the 2.0 and the AP2 we have now. Now that would be sweet!
That would be a pretty good idea...

I am not sure if it's strictly a regional anomaly but the only women I've seen in S2000's have all been AP2's.
Thats b/c most women w/ S2000's get what ever they want from there husbands and women preffer a newer car over a car the revs to 9k which most of them will never see any how heck I doubt they will even see 8k on average.

On average I bet they don't even know what a redline is 50% probably never made it to vtec.

Spoken like a true American. We Americans waste everything. What about being efficient and maximizing your resources? Being inefficient is part of the reason why the worlds resources are all being used up.
As a techno-geek, I love NA engines with high redlines and big horsepower to displacement ratios (and the associated engineering excellence that goes with them).

Let's not kid ourselves, though. Smaller does not necessarily mean more efficient. Specific engine output is a poor predictor of fuel economy. Anyway, to make it simple, remember that a 3 liter engine turning at 6000 rpm is sucking in the same amount of air/fuel mixture as a 2 liter at 9000 rpm (all else being equal).

Haha This thread is getting pretty far of subject but so true... I almost bought an 05 from a lady that was selling it only b/c she could only take one of her kids w/ her at a time and she was buying some volvo convertable or somthing. Performance is the last thing on most womens minds lol

i have an ap2 with only 4900 miles on it, doesn't feel as fast as everyone says these s2k's to be... Is it because I haven't broken in it?

Yes.

If by "broken in" you mean "get your head examined" then yes.

Not saying you dont know how to drive or now about hondas but, 1. The motor is still young but is past brakein. 2. Make sure the motor is up to operating temp for awhile before getting into it. 3. I find if you are sprited through out alot of the drive vtec kicks harder and the car is more responsive I guess the ecu gets used to spirited driving, the motors good and warm and oil pressure is up? Lastly remember these cars arn't torque monsters so your not gonna feel it like a mustang gt or a V8 so go take it through the twisties and let it shine. Going straight isn't it's #1 strong point even though for a 4cylinder it can run and hang with alot out there...

...and dont forget to downshit if and bring the revs into vtec if you want to really book-it on the highway or to pass...

simply stepping on it @ anything less than 5.5k rpms will not be fun lol.

Edit: you can thank Captian Obvious here for this post. lol

Finally, someone who gets it! We drive these cars b/c of the way they feel, not b/c our complex mathematical calculations prove that they make more power more of the time or any other nonsense. The fastest car ain't always the most fun, and none of us are getting paid to win races in our S2000's.
I agree completely! and didn't mean to sound so technical. As a matter of fact, I prefer the "feel" of the AP1 and am looking for a really nice 2003.

However, the technical analysis does show that the blanket statement that the AP2 is more powerful isn't technically totally correct. I was addressing that issue, not trying to figure out which car I wanted because of numbers. Actually, I'm specifically buying an s2000 rather than something faster because I really enjoy the overall feel of the car.
