FYI GrandMasterKhan, if you take the AP1 to redline, it stays in VTEC when you row through the gears too.

Almost any AP1 owner here is going to tell you it's about the raw expression of a pure roadster. AP2 owners are going to tell you that its about useable power and refined handling.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

I was correcting ^ this guy with his erronious thinking. He basically said that the AP2 would be out of Vtec during its shifts. Incorrect!

Vanilla

It took me almost 6 years to obtain an S...not because I couldn't choose AP1 or AP2...I couldn't afford to buy one until now. Hehehe. Before my purchase I had years of reading and research (5 years) and a couple of months before I bought-I test drove. 01, 03 and 05. Since its debut-I knew I wanted an AP1, an 01 to be exact. I'm a Honda FANatic. And I'm also somewhat one of those guys that likes to claim having the "original" (I define this mostly by order of production and not as THE better of the two) I wanted an 01 because I figured by then they would have worked out any bugs.
I love my AP1. I love the 9K redline-do I ever hit it? Not enough to where I can brag about it I love the suspension, the gearbox, the carpet center console...etc. The only thing I wish I had was a glass rear window w/ defrost.
To each his own...sit in them and drive-you'll know. Power means absolutley nothing to me...there is a reason why the aftermarket industry is so prosperous. If you want to talk about real power...go FI-its the ultimate equalizer! It will put all your power debates to rest.

AP1 FTW

The AP2 suspension has been proven to be FASTER on a road course.
Are you talking about the Best Motoring where Tsuchiya was in the JDM AP2...well, different drivers have different capabilities...even among the cast of Best Motoring. Just as it's probably unfair to say that the AP1 has more track records than the AP2. And like it is unfair to say that the AP1 has finished with a quicker time in every Solo2 National Championship since they've both been out. Those are all cases of different drivers. But one thing for sure, it is tough to overcome more tire...and the AP2 does have the capability to put more rubber to the road in stock trim.

Hmmm...did you have timing equipement? If not, then maybe you mean to say, "the AP1 FELT SLOWER". And I can agree with that...back when I had my e36M3, I swore up and down that it was faster than an S2k having driven them back to back. Then I bought an S2k and raced a buddy with an M3. Seems my butt dyno was inaccurate. In every race -- from a roll or launch -- we were dead even. We were both shocked. The Honda sure felt slower.

In reply to -dc: The AP2 has shorter gearing as well. It range is 2k rpms or so

AP2 is better and thats that.

WHY you might ask? Well because I OWN one and say so. Poop to yall geeky pride AP1 freaks. It's just an engine for god sake.

In reality...
HONDA MADE BOTH OF THEM, BOTH OF THEM ARE GREAT.

Ogh point of the post is I WIN. Dont argue, ill win no matter what... why? Because I say so.

Man...Ok...You win.

But seriously I saw a BMI video where they compared the AP1 vs AP2 vs a tuned AP1. The AP1 (stock) was definitely slower than the others. However..The tuned AP1 was alot faster than the AP2. I wish they could have had a tuned AP2 there to compare. I am just biased (ya think!) since I have had an AP1 for a long time. I thought about trading it in for a newer one 05 (this was last year) but I just didnt see the point. Has anyone seen that BMI video I am talking about? I will try to find it on youtube or google video and post the link. Its pretty interesting.

I have seen that- it was the one where the AP2 suspension was found to be preferable and more able than AP1 suspension. Keep in mind, with that video, both cars had F20cs'. So the difference you saw was solely a result of the suspension (and some would argue driver skill).

I could have sworn it was a battle between AP1 vs AP2 vs tuned AP1. Let see if I can find it.
