I did this 3 years ago. Single stock exhaust. It seemed to lose quite a bit of power down low and midrange. On top of that the dealer had a hissy fit when I took my car in for service and blamed everything on the "bottlenecked exhaust" . They refused to work on the car until the exhaust was back to stock. It seemed like a cool idea but it didn't last very long.

I wonder why this is??? could it be that there is to much pressure going through for one stock exhaust to handle alone?

If you go single you can buy a exhaust cap to fill the blank hole. They look great. (imo) If I ever go single I will get a cap to fill the hole
Where can u get these from ?

Removing one side of the stock exhaust is a very bad idea. Have you looked at how much smaller the piping diameter gets after the split? This will cause a huge restriction and a loss in power since each side was designed to only flow half of the engines exhaust gas. You could retain the stock piping up until the split and go custom after that if you wanted.

I think that is the plane for those that are doing this including myself. Cut away just before the split, and completely replace piping from then on to the canister.

Yeah I was afaraid of this. Do you think the restriction will be caused by the muffler or the piping, even bolth? I am becomming more of a skeptic on this now. Still interested on knowing results from anyone else that tries this.

Essentially we're talking about doing an axle back if your gonna cut the OEM before the "Y". What I'd do is remove the entire OEM cat back, do a surgical cut before the "Y" with a reciprocating saw then add on whatever system to want with a slip fitting. If you ever wanted to back to OEM, weld back the stock mufflers.

I think it would be better to just spend some $$$ on a single exhaust like Spugen or T1R, you'd lose more weight and gain power.

version I'll be doing this soon. I ordered the single cap and once it's in I will be cutting the exhaust piping from the Y-Pipe and making it a single unit. Will post pics once done.
Ok, off topic, are you wheels. powder coated oem's.... looks great
