Default Stock exhaust

I have a question regaurding the stock exhaust. The little extension off the b-pipe, what is this for? Also has anyone cut it off to see if it changes the exhaust tone. Just wanted to know thanks.

Helmholtz (spelling?) resonator. It is there to prevent the exhaust drone common on 4-cyl engines around 3-4k rpm.

Nice one.

My RM Racing exhaust has one as well. I asked the same question years ago when I changed my exhaust.

My Amuse has one too.

It's there 'cause the S is such a manly car. It would never forgive you if you cut it off.
