No it was a built block. In all honesty a horsepower record on a block is rather worthless. I have little doubt that someone could get a dynorun showing 1000-2000rwhp on a stock block. But the fact is the engine wouldn't last long. Without reliability as a consideration HP record doesn't mean much. Horsepower in itself isn't much of an accomplishment. Horsepower with reliablity is!
i am much more impressed with moderate horsepower and awesome relialibilty rather than one with 700hp thats ready to blow up. although, watching a 1000hp S do a few runs would be very fun to watch!
