well well well...mr bxtrruls...if a s2000 is a honda...and thank god it is....then a REAL porsche has an air cooled motor in the ass end where the good doktor intended it to be....and in reality it's really a pumped v-dub.

Porsche (pronounced Por-sha)
Whoa - thanks for clearing that up. No wonder the Porsche dealers were giving me funny looks when I mentioned that I really like their porches. Boy do I feel kooky now.

yea, Elistan told me about the Porhce heirarchy. its pretty sad. the Boxster - what I'd consider to be 'entry level Porche' is not real Porche, but it did save the company. I still dig it, it feels very nice, just too much for me right now.

I just gotta rant... I don't usually, but hell why not

This seems to be a good reflection of what many older Porsche owners (older cars, not necessarily owners) have told me. It almost boils down to air-cooled vs. water-cooled camps. The older crew of respectable Porsche driving folks who enjoy the cars are just that - respectable. The newer crew is more concerned with the image and far less "nice" (ex: "it's a Porsche! yours is just a HONDA oh.. mah.. gawd!").

That said, I've met a number of nice Boxster owners. I've also met lemme see now... count 'em - ZERO - S2000 owners (in person, mind you) that are all about highway racing and putting gaudy crap on their car and being punk kids.

Just because the Civic and Integra are infamous for their sometimes gawdy appearances and they HAPPEN to be Hondas, I guess that makes the S2000 a "ricer car", eh? If that were the case, the new 911 Turbo must be a car for middle-aged women on cell phones.

The numerous S2000 owners that I've met - most from this board, mind you - are all respectable, understanding, track-day attending serious car nuts and true enthusiasts who have enough sense to recognize an extraordinarily engineered car, regardless of brand.

Substance is more important than image - this is obviously what led most of us that could afford something more expensive to buy the S2000. Money doesn't necessarily afford taste or intelligence or *God forbid* manners, apparently.

Would we be having this arguement if Porsche made the S2000 and Honda made the Boxster?

Am I the only person in the world who thinks Por- shas are ugly???? I've never like the hatchback look (except the Celica and RSX) and every Por-sha has this ugly airfoil shape; except the Carrera GT which is looking quite nice. Maybe the shape helps with Coefficient of Drag, but the last time I checked, Por-shas were still getting .30 .

[Soapbox On]

Brand loyalty is stupid. If Hyundai made a convertible with a 0-60ft of 4 secs and a skidpad of 1.04, and 35,000$ ,would you not buy it just because it was a Korean Hyundai???

A boxster is a refined and beautiful work of art for men???? Yeah, for decrepit, old men who wear mail-order Depends that only drive their cars fast when they need to get home before they soil themselves.

[Soapbox Off]

P.S. Image is NOT everything!!!!!

And your point is? Whats wrong with Honda? Could you please point out some facts about why it's BAD to own a Honda, or are you just another wannabe badge snob?

And yes, ever since I liked cars (age 14), I've always wanted a Honda. At first, my dream was to get a 5th generation Prelude. I ended getting a Prelude. Later, I grew this unbelievable attraction towards the S2000 and bought my first (1st) S2000 at age 17. Sold that one, and got my new 2001 in September. My dad bought me my car. He drives a 2001 Toyota Camry LE. My point is, you don't have to drive "fancy" cars to be rich. If my dad wanted, he could be driving a Rolls Royce right now. But no, he's smart and decided to put his money towards much more better things. One thing being our house. Your the type of person that would spend all there money on there car, and buy a shitty apartment to live in just so you can have a "cool" car. But when you bring guests over, are you gonna serve them tea in your car, or in your house? So don't go talking shit on us since we drive a Honda. Pretty much everybody on this board is financially capable of buying a Boxster, we just don't like to brag about it like some people. . Why don't we both drive through the local high-school and see who gets more of the attention from the kids. Better yet, why don't you do that with your son!!! At the end of the day, the Honda will always be more superior to the Porsche. Don't even try to compare.

P.S.

Don't even try to start that "I don't believe you own those cars
bullshit with me cause there are people from this board that have
seen me. I don't bullshit, Mrs. Boxster.

Nope, you're not, but you're one of very few. I I love the luscious curves on the 993 design; the 996 is nice because it's new and modern, but the 993 is a classic shape for sure -- especially the wide body version (4S and Turbo). Even the door interior paneling is a amazing to see. It blends design with function so well as opposed to most doors which are merely functional:
