sunglasses
Oakleys for shooting
Ray Bans for flying
Walmart cheapos in the car
The Oakleys are tough as hell and if you can get a friend in the military to order for you, they can be real cheap. The lenses are consistent and tough, but nothing amazing. Great for when you are sweating and dirty though.
The Ray Bans are classic and a great lens quality that you can find unpolarized (to read glass in the cockpit).
Sounds like I need to try out a pair of Maui Jims

To me, my Maui Jims are worth every penny. Unfortunately, you need a giant stack of pennies to buy a pair. (And don't even ask about the pair I lost in an waverunner incident)
See if you can find a sunglass shop outside of a traditional mall. Ask the clerk first, but they should let you step outside to "test" a pair before you buy. I've done that more than once.

Polarized makes a big difference.
Can't go wrong with Oakley IMO. My friend works in marketing and personally witness the type of engineering and testing that goes behind them. I would also recommend polarized lenses to cut glare. I also have RayBan aviators but they're more for style.
I second Maui Jim's. My sister got me a pair like 3 years ago and it was worth at least $150 at the time. Unfortunately, I lost it 6 months ago and bought a cheap, $15 pair. Night and day different! The cheap pairs are duller but the Maui's are absolutely like you are seeing without glasses but of course there's dark shading. Can't wait to start working to buy me a pair. I hate using my cheapos unless I really need to.
I'm a sunglasses whore. I have had a lot of the following brands... spy, electric, and Smith. I have tried oakley and dragons. So far I have liked all three I purchased... didn't like dragon or oakley much. I ditched electrics cause I ended up liking the styling of the spy's the most. However Smith I will say have the best warranty policy and customer service. Multiple people I know that use them have had their sunglasses replaced when they broke them. They even explained to customer support that they had ran over them or whatever and they were really cool about it. So thats the brand I have been sticking with. Plus they give Military/Police/Fire a discount.
Smith for the following reasons, customer service, lens replacement, lens clarity, lightweight frames, eco "green" recycled frames if you're into that, comfortable (you can wear them all day long without getting raw ears or a headache.)
Spy has good lenses and I really like the bomber 8 barrel hinge they use, its solid. They look super good all the time.
I'd say skip polarized lenses. My smiths have them and they can be annoying. They do a good job of blocking light without being too dark though. Just sometimes annoy me for some reason that I can't pinpoint. Its really a good feeling to switch to normal lenses after wearing those though. I like them when I'm hiking or fishing though... I would suggest a Copper mirror or bronze style lens. It does a good job of blocking light without being too dark and really brings out colors of the outdoors (which unless you're kanye is where you'll wear them.)
What you should really do is find out your face size and go try on some different glasses in the mall. Get some that feel right and spend at least 50 bucks and you should be good to go.
