Default Suspension ? Springs?

Hey guys just purchased my s2k back in october.. now its time to upgrade some stuff.. now I dont really want to pay alot for suspension.. so i wanted to ask about just springs and how that works for the s2k and wat to get.. or is it worth getting just springs??.. now i still want awesome handling .. is it the right way to just get springs or coilovers is the way to do it.. now all my friends down here have tein flexes.. and other coilovers.. their pretty good .. looks sick and they handle good.. but i dont want to spend alot of money on suspension.. cause imma get an exhaust and a lip get as well.. but I dont know i just need feedback on some springs and some coilovers.. wat should i doo?? lol im new to this s2k.. havnt had it for a year but learned alot about it =).. I was also thinking about just the tein springs.. but is it good to get it on my factor struts or would i blow them out?.. i want to do clean work to my car.. and it is a lease.. but might end up keeping it at the end =).. Thanks!

I personally have always been really stand offish when it comes to springs. I have seen too many people have problems or have their handling turn to crap to want to try them myself. If I were you, I would save your money a little longer and get yourself a set of nice coilovers.

I have Eibach springs, but I really wish I would have bought coilovers.

springs are fine and won't adversely affect your handling unless they give a big drop. The stock shocks should still last a long time with only a small drop. Slamming the car is not good for anything. If you're just looking for aesthetic improvement without adverse effects on handling, springs are fine.. big difference between $180 on springs, and $1000+ for nice coilovers.

oem setup is perfectly from the factory, there's no need to do so even if you track it. If you want to just lower it but either retain the same handling or improve it, prepare to spend at least $3k for either the Mugen/Showa, Spoon/Showa, Ohlins, or JRZ. $4-5k range will get you Motons or ASM/Sachs.

kw v3s have always been popular around here
haven't heard bad things about the tein srcs either

both of which can be had for under $3k

Is it really true that any suspension setups besides those $3k+ ones are downgrades to handling? I keep hearing this, yet most everyone with springs/shocks or moderately priced coilovers sing praises of improvement over stock.

Its difficult to tell what just springs w/ moderate lowering will do to the handling. Some people might say the car handles better, but without a before and after lap comparison, how do they really know? If you're just driving hard on the street, or even the occasional track session/auto-x for fun, a quality spring with moderate drop (.5-1") isn't going to do much.

heres my 2 cents...

go springs only if you're lowering for looks, on a tight budget and need to space out your mods, eventually upgrading the shocks later...

go cheap coils if you're picky about ride height and dont track the car

go mid coils if you're picky about ride height and might track the car

go expensive coils if you're a baller and hardcore track racer

or stay stock if you dont think you can beat the balance of honda r&d
