Synthetic oil at first oil change. Did I screw up?
Dealer asked me if I wanted standard or synthetic oil when I dropped it off for the first oil change. Without thinking, I said synthetic. Never used it before and have only heard good things about it. I've put about 300 miles on the car with Castrol Syntec and have seen some comments in the posts here about not switching to synthetic until 10K miles!
Did I agree to something that I'm going to regret down the road? Let me know what the effects of this will be and if it will be a significant impact on performance, longevity, etc. (if there is a significant impact, what recourse do I have...change the oil back to standard?).
Has anyone else done this? If so, any issues?
Help!

Honda says wait longer, but I believe you are fine.
But Syntec is not a very good synoil in the US- it is a hydrowax - I would recommend a full PAO synoil like Amsoil, NEO, Mobil1 (pretty much PAO) - or an ester like Motul or Red Line.

Road Rage, sorry but I've not a clue what you just said...my unfamiliarity with synthetic oils (and oil in general) is the cause of this.
What is a hydrowax and why is it not very good? Also, could you explain the differences between PAO and ester?
Thanks!

BMW has synthetic oil in their cars since day one. It'll be fine. People wait because mineral oil breaks in the car better, the sythetic is usually too slick for a car with a few thousand miles, but you should be fine.

I think you'll be alright though. You're engine may take a bit longer to break in and you might experience oil consumption a bit longer, if any.
