Hey, any of you guys take out power steering, I would think it would improve road feel, if you've done it, what is the procedure? ( i read that you can take the eps fuse out)
thanks
thanks
I've had two cars in the past that had no power steering and the steering ratios are much slower than the S2K ratio in order to make it easier to daily drive.
I hit a curb about 2 years ago and I drove the car without powersteering for almost a year..
it wasn't "damn near impossible" to turn at a standstill and it seemed to drive just fine at Laguna Seca... the only problems were parallel parking in which it took way too long to park.

From wikipedia:
Electric power steering (EPS or EPAS) is designed to use an electric motor to reduce effort by providing assist to the driver of a vehicle. Most EPS systems have variable assist, which allows for more assistance as the speed of a vehicle decreases and less assistance from the system during high-speed situations. This functionality requires a delicate balance of power and control that has only been available to manufacturers in recent years.
As far as I know, removing it is just going to make turning at low speeds a pain in the ass since that's the only time the EPS is active.

Cars without power steering have more 'turns' of the steering wheel, from all the way left, to all the way right. (lock to lock) This is because the gearing/leverage is needed to make it practical to turn. The s2k was designed for power steering, which is why it takes so few turns of the wheel from lock to lock. Since the S2k requires so little turning of the wheel,it would probably be a total hog to steer without it. I know with hydraulic (the s2k is electric i think so idk) the cars have a lockout, which turns off the power steering at a certain mph because its not needed.
It wont make you go any faster so why would you spare the effort?

Our powering steering is built in, yea u can remove the electronics of it but what would that serve.. no purpose besides a .1lb weight savings..
Plus its almost imposible in our car..
Its even more impossible cause of the electric gear that assists you, if you remove the electronics now you have to spin that gear as well as ur wheels, thats why its 10 times harder then removal normal power steering.
