Tell me, is my differential o.k.?
Last month my building manager put this card key access into the garage on this incline. In the morning I stop to slide my card, and proceed up the ramp steering slightly to the right. This is when I hear a rubbing noise which I think is comming from the left side...it's like my left tire is trying alot harder than my right tire. No, it's not my rear tires rubbing against the fender; I am starting off pretty slow, and I don't think my tire is loosing traction to make the noise.
I have talked to someone about this (lips2000), and he says if a differential has problems, it is more like a ticking noise or chatter. Does a screwed up differential make a rubbing noise?
Thanks,

Hey.. I posted something about this a long time ago. When making u-turns, it sounded like my tires were rubbing against something. Its like a low moaning noise. Someone from this forum told me that its normal for the differential to make this noise. I dunno, I'd like to hear comments on this as well. My car is still making the same noises when making sharp turns.

I get the moaning noise too, but only in u-turns. People said before that it's normal for an LSD.
Since you're getting this noise when you're just slightly turning, it might be a different problem.

Hi guys, If the ticking noise starts to go faster as you speed up, then I'm sorry to say that is your Diff, I had the same problem. Just take it back to Honda and they should fix it under warranty.

When the same moaning noise fails to go away and gets louder with increasing speed it is not normal. Be wary and have the fluid level checked. My diffy suffered a leak and got very low on fluid. After the techs repaired the leak and replaced the fluid the noise didn't go away. Eventually the whole thing was "rebuilt" and the noise returned a few days later. I'm now waiting for the whole assembly to be replaced with a new diffy. Coupled with my TSB repairs the car has been in the shop since August 7.
Initially the dealer told me not to worry about the noise saying it was only the tires.
