Is there a point to all the hp?
I don't care how you try to rationalize the weak hp per pound of the S2000. Bottom line is more power = more thrill. Double the factory output and raise it some more beyond that = thrills, fun, excitement every time you enter the car.
Remember that first time you put the S into Vtec? Every time afterwards is was just a little less exciting. Lots of hp is like that first experience with Vtec every time you drive.
Exhilarating

it's really about taking those whp and actually hooking up.
just because you have 1000whp, that doesn't mean you'll go fast straight all the time.
I think balance is the key and s2000 is almost there in capability of handling it's stock whp. I think that's what the engineers had in mind.
But 80 more whp would be just perfect for the s2000. anymore than that I think you're compromising a lot of balance over straight line performance.
I mean, not all of us wants to go fast in a straight line, but most of us wants to have the car move when you have to and I for one, want about 80 to 100 more whp to the wheels which s2000 is more than capable of handling.

I think that to much horsepower is over rated. My room mate has a 95 eagle talon with a 2.3 liter stroker kit and a 50 trim turbo. His car is a pain in the ass to drive around daily, yet he still drives it every day. All the horsepower that most of the new cars have and a lot of the tuner cars have are useless horsepower, if daily driving your car.
All that power is just going to get you in trouble, or worst. Who cares whose car is faster, I still think a stock s2000 is more fun to drive then a 500 whp evo (my last car) or a 400whp talon(my room mates car) This is just my opinio of course.

More power never really made sense to me, ESPECIALLY on an S. I could never fully use the power on the street. I never understood the reason why people complained about S2000's power either. I mean if you are looking into hp, just get another car right? How hard is it? Why did you even buy S2000 in the first place? Too poor? Someone forced you to? We see a pattern here. A lot of us want high hp car, but typically high hp cars are heavy-weighted, which is a characteristic we don't want. Now we seek for light-weight high hp car, the prices are not even in our range that we can afford.

I'm torn on this.
I think the S does have enough power for what it is, but I do want more power or torque. Haven't got beat by a minivan yet, but I imagine that the experience isn't all that great. Btw, if folks are cutting you off, wouldn't it take you by surprise? Or are you racing them as opposed to just let them go ahead. I drive at my pace and move out of the way if someone wants that spot in line that much more. In stop and go when someone jumps in the left lane and drives all the way to the front and tries to cut in I usually just close the gap, power has nothing to do with this. Sounds to me a lot of people are driving rather aggressively. I'm the type that waves people to go as opposed to goign through the aggravation of going and having to dodge someone else.

And well set up five hundred horsepower S2000 is even more of a blast to drive than a stock S2000.
Driving with that much power requires self constraint and common sense on the road.
The self constraint is very difficult but you can mix in common sense and stay out of trouble.

The self constraint is very difficult. The Evo and the Talon are no fun for daily becasue they idle rough (282 intake and exhaust cams) and no matter what, you smell like gas when you get to your destination. For a weekend car, they are awesome I haven't had my S for more then two months yet, so I am sure within a year I will want to through a sc on it
But for now, stock is more then adequate for me. If I need a rush I just throw it out sideways in a corner.
More HP gives you more options.
It gives you more control because you can exercise those options, or not, at your whim, on your demand, and your choice.
The stock S forces your hand. You ain't got the horses, you ain't got the choices.
Well you do actually have 2 choices remaining, I guess. You can charge off the light and get smacked down. Or you can act like you don't want to charge off the light, so you don't get pinned by a van.

After driving a vehicle with 5 lbs per wheel-hp, including rider (the equivalent of about 600rwhp in an S2000) - I disagree. I simply cannot go full throttle without putting myself an others into real danger. Maybe if I were more into street racing it'd be a great thrill, but that's just not my thing. I go to the track, where there really isn't an upper limit to useable horsepower.
I am happy with the S2000's power. I don't need the S2000 to accellerate like my bike. Or corner like my kart. I have never had a real high horsepower car so my views might be different. I don't see the point of turning a package of air conditioning, passenger seat, drink holder, stereo, spare tire, and leather interior, into a high performance machine. But to each their own.
ZX11 is just cruising to the local best buy with the perfect top down roadster being passed by mini vans
