IMHO, Like I said it the CR thread, if you want big HP don't buy a Honda. Not to be rude or anything but its the truth.

HP has become cheap these days, every car gets bigger and bigger motors. Having driven many cars in my life HP means nothing if isn't on a nice platform. Speed means nothing if you can't handle it, moreso the feel of the car.

The 'S' is one of the most solid cars at high speeds (as most Honda's are). Having driving other cars that aren't stable at high speeds, what good is all the HP if you can't enjoy it.

I applaud Honda and resent them at the same time for not being at the top of HP wars. I applaud them because they still use extensive R&D engineering to squeeze every single HP out of smaller motors rather than just jumping to a large motor as many manufacturers do. In the end, this helps our environment (Honda is the most fuel efficient auto maker) and decreases our dependence on foreign oil.

I resent Honda when I see the RL still getting a 6 cylinder motor. Its really lost in the pack of big HP.

to the 150 mph guy in canada, WTF are you talking about?

sideways, i think i get what you mean. lots of power with the correct gearing can be fun as it does the same speed but faster. the cars that bug me are the ones that hit 60 mph in first gear.

the thing that i wanted to point out is that all these feelings of wanting to keep up in the hp war is just that, feelings of peer pressure. pretty pathetic for grown adults.

Then their are the leering folks that just want to smack you down personally. It's not about getting to work faster, it's about showing you that you tossed money away on a sports car that they just creamed in their van or Chrysler K.
Do you have some kind of inferiority complex or something? Dang... don't take your morning commute so personally. If it gives some redneck a chubby to get off the line faster than you, then you should feel good about being a bright spot in their day. It's no sweat off your back.

I know exactly what my S2000 is about. It's not about drag racing some trophy wife in her Cayenne Turbo from the stoplight to the tanning salon. It's not about keeping John Q. Yuppie from merging in ahead of me when his lane ends. And it's not about keeping Billy Bob from using his F-ten-fifty to spew diesel fumes in my face.

It is about having great balance and maneuverability and tons of fun at the track or autocross. That is exactly why I bought my car. And it fulfills all of my wishes in those departments. Sure, it's fun for cruising around town, and enjoying a nice day with the top down, but I don't care about all that other stuff. I'm very happy with the 240hp in my car, and while I wouldn't complain about another 10, 20 or 80hp... I just don't need it to really enjoy my car. Plus, I kill enough dinosaurs as it is.

Maybe so.

But think for a minute where the computer industry would be now if folks adopted the PC attitude of "I should be happy with what I get", "I should not want for more", "additional power to run several programs at once? Who needs that?".

I agree, it is not all about that.

But I think it is some about that. It is a factor. Part of the big picture for a multi-faceted car.

For some maybe not. For most folks, I think it is a factor.

I am not asking for 400hp. Just take it to 280 or so...this balanced with the curb weight returns that sweet spot the S had 8 years ago.

I think there's a veeeeery big difference between floating point operations per second, and 0-60 times.

Double my computing power every 18 months and I can do a lot more (search for the BigDog robot videos), but double my horsepower every 18 months, and after a while the returns are negligible.

Agreed.

How about giving us the equivalent of 90 days progression in the computing world for 9 years of the S?

That's all it would take.

Those little GoKarts dont have a lot of HP and yet they are a blast to drive no matter who you put in there, kids to grown ass man will enjoy it. My S may not have all that HP, but it sure is a fun toy....

That's the point I am trying to make exactly.

If all you want is seat of your pants twisty's track fun, a gokart is a cheap route to achieve it. You could get a kickin custom kart for about 20k cheaper than the S.

I like the ride on the S, I like the twisties, but I want more return on the other 20 grand.

The extra HP would fill the only void I really see in the car and make it perfect.
