Things gotta change...
I like this area. Of course, I am biased because I live here. But the truth is that there are many beautiful drives in the vicinity. We are centrally located...the wine country isn't that far away...neither is Tahoe...one of the best places I know of to go for a beautiful drive. Even Yosemite isn't that far...Tioga Pass is a great drive. I think Sac was a great choice
. But I agree...it is HOT here in June!!
Either way...we've done enough finger-pointing. Let's work together to find a way to either save this thing or plan a suitable alternative. I want to have fun, too. I love the local meets. Bigger can only be better. We need to work hard to get the bay area people to come...just look at their forum. It is the most active club forum we have. There are a lot of owners there...they can put this over the top just by themselves. Don't give up yet...you have built it, they will come

My point is people from other parts of the country hear "Sacramento" and think "Hot". I love the area too and know of many many nice drives and locales around. But it is not the same draw for folks from back East or LA as Monterey would be.
I agree that we should get this going and as I mentioned I am paid and ready. No fingers being pointed except maybe that "I told you so" back in the beginning by heavily voting for Asilomar.

Bob,
Sorry for the confusion, but the "finger pointing" comment was not directed at you. I am guilty of some of it...see comments above regarding the promotion of the event. I took some of the comments in here personally (because I haven't paid yet). My word is my bond, though, and if the event is taking place, I will be there. I will pay when I am able to.

Sacramento was chosen because of its proximity to Thunderhill.
We tried for Laguna - didn't happen.
We tried for Sears Point - didn't happen.
We got Thunderhill.
The track was important to us because many of the locals out in California attend many track events.
In any case, the event will probably be canceled and depending on the financial outcome, the S2KCA could be put out of business.

I understand the perceived need for a track event although I don't share that need. The location of a more attractive locale for the social events and vendor opportunities is more important to me, that is why I did not choose to participate in Thunderhill. Redding in June is even less attractive in terms of ghastly heat than Sacramento and the drive between the two can hardly be termed scenic.
I am not second-guessing the decision to hold a track event nor really the location of any of the activities. I still stand in support but from your pessimism it sounds like not many others do.

Thanks for the support, Bob. If we sound pessimistic, it's really because we are all very disappointed, sad and a little confused at how this turned out. It's been troubling for everyone involved...I'm sure you can understand why this is so.
Monterey was our first choice, but trust me, it would have been even more expensive which would have been even more prohibitive than having it elsewhere, Sacramento included.
As far as a drop dead date, that would be today, most likely. The sooner we unleash the organization from this obligation, the better chance we have at getting out of it and not being bankrupted by the contract we have with the Sheraton. And given the lackluster response that I have observed even after posting this, I think the event is doomed. So I'll talk to the hotel again today to just wrap it up...hopefully they will understand and we'll still be able to be in business.

I think a lot of people still don't know that a drive up to Lake Tahoe and a visit to CompTech is part of the weekend.
A fancy web page with attractive graphics and scenic photos somehow put in people's faces might have grabbed a lot of interest. I think a lot of people never ventured into the S2KDays forum and waded through the various threads to find out what was planned.
I'm not trying to criticize, but be helpful and constructive. Good luck, I hope something good can come out of this.

The track days have been released back to Thunderhill. Krazik is doing something there in place of us...poke around for something about how to sign up, probably in the Meets and Events forum.
The next step is to get out of the Sheraton contract and we'll be through this whole thing...I hope to wrap this all up today.
Sorry, for you guys, that it didn't work out.
