Are these cars lemons or are all s2000s bad?
I've read about lot of S2000 engines going bad too.
I'm considering trading my 2000 MR2 Spyder in on a S2000 cause I like the looks and features much better, but there sounds like a lot of quality issues, especially for Honda.
It sounds more like Dodge or Ford built it? (typical American car quality)
I've been driving Hondas and Toyotas for a long time now, cause they are always top notch, trouble free vehicles.
So I'm a little concerned.
What happens after the warrenty?
Not trying to cause a flame war or trouble (being that I have a MR2 Spyder, I also have Integra GSR), just honestly very interested in an S2000, but getting nervious from what I've been reading here.

Here is the almost perfect trouble free history of our Hondas/Toyotas:

2000 MR2 Spyder - Triple Black - no problems after 16 months other than paint seems easly chipped compared to the older Integra GSR. But I'm seeing/hearing that from a lot of newer cars/owners

1998 Acura Integra GS-R - Supersonic Blue - only recently needed had rear window washer (squirt) fixed cause it didn't work - owned for 3-1/2 years.

1996 VW Jetta for a couple years, and I was always taking it in for bent steel wheel rims, bad sensors and other annoying problems. I hated having to drop it off at the dealer all the time.
VWs are crap. So I went back to Honda/Acura and Toyota after that.

1995 Acura Integra SE - owned for a year, sold to buy first house - not a problem in that one year - but expected

1993 Toyota Corolla - now my winter beater - only had A/C fitting replaced (under warrenty) in 7 years of ownership. 1st battery just went. replaced tires after 5 years, still has original brakes, etc. I think that's amazing!

1985 Toyota MR2 - bought 5 years old, ran great, even in winter, had timing belt go while driving, replaced belt with my brother, up and runing perfect again, no damage! good non interference valve/piston (head) design. - replaced rear brake caliper when it was 8 years old) replaced struts when 6 years old) Had it for 4 years- 9 years old total. sold it to my brother who drove it for 2 years with not a problem. got rusty and donated it for tax write off at 11 years old. drivin through 11 minnesota salty road winters.

As you can see, I'm used to almost nothing going wrong with the cars I buy, and I like it that way.
Please say that these are just 1st year production issues or a couple lemons in the bunch?
Let me know, Thanks

Kozmo: I attribute it to first model year glitches. I actually expected a few, since it's a brand new design.

On the topic of the differential, it's notable that failures here in the U.S. are happening at a rate of 9:1 to the rest of the world. What are we doing to these cars that they aren't in other markets???

December 31, 2000 - Purchased
Today - ~2000 miles later, not one problem

Are most of the problems people experiencing related to the '00 years only? What are people experiencing with the 2001's? I have a 2001 and have not had any problems. Maybe its just because I have little miles on it.

MY2000 (9038) bought in Sept 2000.

transmission noise under decel - haven't had the TSB done
seatbelt recall - done
rare, intermittent misfire on cylinder #1 - fixed under warranty, replaced plugs, wires, coil, injector
driver's side window won't auto-down - replaced regulator assy under warranty
AC won't cool at idle - replaced compressor under warranty
rear tires - replaced at 26k miles

Sondra S2K - this was my suggestion when mindcore asked for input on the site. If we had a database of S2000 repairs, we, as individuals, would have a lot more power when we are trying to get repairs done. Honda has this info, we don't. Let's level the playing field.

Only problem is getting members to submit the data. A lot of people think providing their VIN is dangerous (give me a break), what would they think if we asked for repair ticket info like dealer names, dates, etc?

Hi Stealthy

Curious, which bolts were loose? Wonder if loose bolts are causing my post TSB squeaking mattress noise.

purchased 6-01

Current problems, haven't been fixed because the car is new (3,800) miles and I haven't wanted to drop if off at the dealer yet.

Drivers window does not go down with the top, or respond to the auto down feature

CD player skips

Finish peeling off of climate control fan switch (can see back lighting at night from the side)
