For those with the spoon snorkle......
Please help me with my intake battle. its comptech v. spoon snorkle. personally ive heard good things about the comptech, but i heard the cover screws get loose, and personally i feel the comptech cai plastic tube that goes into the manifold looks somewhat "cheap" to me.
so here it is.
1. why did you buy the spoon snorkle?
2. are you running the stock filter, or an aftermarket one?
3. did you notice any gains? if so, what do you assume?
4. would you buy it again if you were moding a stock s2000?
5. what were the other intakes you were looking at?
this would help out a lot if anyone could help. ive been on the search for a few days now, but its not 100% helpful. thanks for the help guys........................Frank

The intake decision was a hard one for me to make too. Here are my answers to your questions:
1. I bought the Spoon snorkel because I felt that it was a better design than the comptech (pulling air from the mouth opening), and because I wouldn't have to worry so much about hydrolocking vs. having something like the AEM. Also, I love the look of the carbon kevlar and having the Spoon duct would complement the other Spoon parts I have on my car. Along those lines, the Spoon intake was one of the few that would fit with the Spoon STB.
2. I swapped out my filter and put in a Comptech drop in foam filter. Would have got the Spoon one but it was over twice the price.
3. Gains I felt were slight, almost negligible. But this was about the same time I had put in some 4.44 gears and I was not really used to the extra pull of the gears at that time. As such I couldn't differentiate the pull coming from the new gears vs the pull coming from the new intake combo.
4. Yes I would buy the combo again.
5. I was looking at pretty much all the other intakes, but mostly comptech and AEM v2.

I bought it for several reasons:
1) Looks amazing, can't beat it.
2) I don't like the look of aftermarket intakes on the f20c, removing the airbox leaves a huge void in the engine bay (I'm not bashing, just not my thing). I wanted to keep the stock airbox under the hood.
3) I wanted to maintain my Spoon theme
As far as the pinch goes, those Spoon guys have done their homework. I don't think its an issue, especially during normal driving conditions, even during spirited driving too.

^^well said .....I also did not enjoy the sound that most cai's produced.....the other I was considering was the Comptech....I think that I would have been happy either way, I think that maintaing my stock airbox was a bonus since I already felt it was a pretty effecient on it's own and the snorkel complimented it quite well.
so far the spoon seems like a winner. i will agree that hydrolock is a concern along with maintaining the stock airbox. i like the look of the airbox under the hood, it fills the engine bay up. i guess ill just make a decision and try to realize that it is a spoon part, and spoon does know what their doing.
is anyone running a k&n drop in filter with the spoon or stock airbox?

I am running a comptech foam filter in the spoon/IDI snorkle. I wanted the engine to get more air at speed. I also did not want the noise that the other intakes make plus, I also didn't want to worry about hydro-locking the motor.
