don't sell the car because the cops are jerks--it seems immoral for you to do.

if the cop honestly thought you were drunk, fine, but i lived in small town mississippi and i think i know what you mean.

in mississippi, one time when i was pulled over, the cop walked up to me and paused to peer into my interior. after silently looking around, she finally told me 'i heard your stereo.' it took well over 5 seconds for her to say that. i had a beater convertible with a custom stereo at less than 15% volume, which eqates to a volume of about 10 on my s2000 factory stereo. it was considerably quieter than ordinary conversation. the cop then told me 'well i probably just heard it because the top was down.' and then she told me 'go home.' that time, it appeared that my stereo was just the first excuse she saw after she pulled me over, but the real fact was that she wanted to pull me over so she did. maybe she thought i could have alcohol--not a lot of people were on the road (midnight on a weekend)--but i drove perfectly, and she simply pulled me over first and asked questions later. it's not illegal to drive at midnight. IMO, that's harassment, not law enforcement.

if i were doing something wrong/driving like a drunk/it were at least an isolated incident, i'd shrug it off and never remember it. but it wasn't. many people had problems with the local city police. it was accepted as fact that if you knew the judge, he threw out your ticket, and i saw that happen several times. one officer was admittedly a kid who graduated high school and wanted to stick it to all the jerks that picked on him, so he became a city cop so he'd have the ability to do it. talk about small minded.

if it's that same type of harassment you're seeing, the real problem is ignorance, and the solution is not to sell your car. it's to move out of the small town and into a bigger city where they have a university and some education. if you do that, you'll find a lot of other problems disappear too. and no, i'm not kidding.

in salt lake city, UT, i've never had trouble with police. i've received 1-2 citations, and they were justified--speeding etc. i didn't fight them--i earned a ticket by driving illegally, and illegal significantly beyond traffic's typical mph over the limit in the area. and though i don't ever want a citation deserved or otherwise, good job to the cops for stopping me on those occasions and only those occasions--overall, they're doing exactly what the city and its citizens would want them to do.

something you might find useful

i read the ricer mags in the uk and a year or two back, a 19 year old guy was driving around in a standard porsche boxster.

during a single month, he was pulled over 19 times. he then sought a harassment order against the police to ensure they had genuine reason to pull him. if they didn't he'd claim compensation

seemed to do the job.

I'm against abusive police, but you think they should not pull people over for running red lights, which is what you did, especially when they see it happen? I think it is hard to justify that one. He doesn't know it was an 'honest mistake' until he talks to you anyways.

Sounds like a good idea, as you sound to be somewhat dense between the ears, and appear to be a generally a poor driver.

I support cops so long as I don't feel like I'm being harased, this isn't the first time I have been harassed like this. The officer apoligized about making me do the sobriety test but I said thats fine, your just doing your job. Then he makes a bunch of asshole comments that really pissed me off. Calling chief of police to see if he will listen to what I have to say, if not I think I will be filing harassment charges. I'm tired of this shit. I got pulled over last summer for accelerating quickly and weaving through traffic, now I did deserve the ticket, but the cop wrote incriminating things that I didn't do on the ticket. For example he said that I accelerated rapidly (improper start) from the stoplight about a half mile previous to my weaving through traffic. The truth is that there was a F'in Ford Taurus in front of me, so how exactly could I have accelerated rapidly with a 60 year old lady in a Ford Taurus in front of me? Thats the BS that really annoys, time to put a stop to it.

You made an illegal left. He pulled you over for running the red. What makes it an honest mistake?
