Toasted engine
Great post Vince.
I think AHM is correct in expecting us to NOT expect them to pay for an engine replacement if we are negligent. We cannot expect this engine to be undamaged with no lubricant aboard.
However, I think that if we do our part, ie check the oil routinely and drive the car as designed, they will warrant the car against defects.
To date I know of 20 short block failures and Honda has paid for all 20. 16 of these were cylinder/piston problems and 4 were porous block problems. 20 failures over two model years, over 24 months of sales. Fewer than one failure a month world-wide, as far as we can document.
Honda has paid for these, even though, in a few cases the owner may have been less than completely "by the book" in checking the oil and and may have let the oil go low.

Interesting enough... a friend of mine has a 2001 Honda Prelude that has experienced the loss of oil several times between oil changes. He also found documentation of several similar instances on other message boards.
Barry WY,
I got a phone call today from another S2K owner that had a cylinder # 2 failure (same as our car - per dealership). Here are the interesting points, it was a 2000 S2K with 37K miles. AHM warrantied the engine. The owners email address is cummingsbc@yahoo.com. He has tried to get into the web board, but has had some difficulty - can someone help him with this issue??? Just a FYI to whomever was keeping the engine failure reports, thought it was you Barry..
