Default Toda header question - pic enclosed

I just bought this from a member on the board who said it was mint, but then said that the clerk dropped it???

this looks like it was drug along something pretty rough....

has anyone had any experience with something like this? It is a toda and I planned on using it for racing only......... I don't want it to break. I paid $900....too much for it to break!

thanks for the input.

that looks real bad, expect about 4whp loss throughout the whole band, try and get your money back ASAP!!!!jk

your perfectly fine! as long as there are no cracks, that looks like a minor scrape and shouldnt even affect performance at all. Ive got friends with lowered civics and integras who run different types of headers on their B-series motors while being lowered. Ive seen collectors that are crushed and scraped to hades

this appears to be at the lowest point when it is mounted, so it seems like it scraped the ground..... anyone know how to weld in a new piece if that part happen to split?

the car will be driven at 6000-8300rpm all day...... i am concerned about the durability....

edit - ^ how thick are the walls in that part of the header? it has a fair amount scraped off.... I thought i was getting a MINT header so i am somewhat pissed about this...... I may be making more of it than needed...??

I have a toda...those tubes are not that thick. In fact IIRC Toda discouraged folks from welding the lower bracket back on when they break off (and they nearly all break) since the header tubing is quite thin.

Of course it is tough to tell how much material was scrapped off from the pic.

I think I would be a bit irritated too if I'd paid that much for a "mint" header only to find a defect like that.

what do they recomend if something breaks on that part of the header? do they recomend sending it back to them to get fixed? if so, how much does that normally cost? I may just want to send it to them now to have it done.....???

thanks

As I recall it was not warranteed. That was what caused quite a stink about the toda header...lots of buyers felt there was no support. And some retailers were left holding the bag to satisfy some customers.

My opinion...the cost of having it repaired at this point would bring the total cost of the header upto what you could buy it new.

You might take it to a metal fabrication shop that does tig welding and see what they estimate it would cost to patch that section.

I think I would either negotiate a new price for the header based on the estimated repair cost, or have the seller take it back since it was advertised as mint and you received it in less than mint condition.

It's the lowest hanging part of the header, and is easily scraped even on a stock ride height car. I don't think that much material has been removed based on you pic and the scrapes that was on my old header. Mine was the one that Toda refused to warranty.

Why it wasn't disclosed before the sale is another issue.
