Does 140+ mph at the end of 5th gear sound a little farfetched? If it does than you need to stop shifting at 8k. This might sound a little cliche, but stop assuming, it makes an ass out of you and me
Howsabout you "stop assuming"? If you do the math (or use "The Reverend's Gearing Calculator"), you'll find that 140mph is nowhere near 8K RPMs in 5th. In fact, redline (8900RPMs) in 5th will be at ~138mph. I think the rev-limiter is 9200, which is still only about 142mph... but do you really want to find out what it feels like to hit the rev-limiter at 142mph, just to pull another 4mph? I wouldn't.

As for me....
I've been in an S2000 with the top down at about 130mph, and it was still accellerating, but not with any authority (maybe 1-3mph per second). It would've been interesting to try the same run with the top up to see how much of a difference there would be.

Each car performs differently. I use my calculator for my calculus class, not for my driving. Do you punch in an equation before you shift? and my comment towards sleakbackroaster, from what he's saying, you can't get nowhere closed to 140 by the end of 5th gear, and if you can, ur bullshitting . How fast did you say 9200 rpm on 5th gear would be? 142?? so what's ur point here? So according to "the calculator", it's 9200 @ 142 mph on 5th gear, and i did 145mph (remember, the odometer is a couple of mph faster than it really is) at the end of 5th. Is that hard to believe, maybe im just blessed with a factory beast.

Fastest Ive ever driven a car was in my s2000 top up, 157mph. This was done on a CLOSED stretch of road, (4 foot guardrails on all sides), straight as a ruler, onto a bridge, at 3 am. There was no one on the road, and no one in my car other than myself. If I lost control, I would/could have only hurt myself. No other lives were at risk. Car was very stable, and had more left in it.

Oh, and others are correct, you need a LONG stretch or road (5 miles at least) to hit 150+. The car pulls, but slowly. After 140, you go up 1mph every like 1/4 mile. (approx)

Much love yeah i get your point now. I do encounter people that bs about there top speed. I know some guy that claims to go 145mph on a stock gti and another guy that claim he went 150mph on his lude. (both stories sounds fishy and inconsistent ) This is in person though.. not in a forum

90mph!

Haven't had time or the inclination to push it farther. Maybe later on.

Best place in So Cal is the 210 West between Pasadena and La Canada. Late at night though. There's nobody on that freeway. Just dead empty, so if you screw up, at least you only screw yourself. I did 121mph there in my 91 Toyota Cressida during high school. Scared my passenger shitless. Ran 205 tires on that thing, and by the time I hit 121, the car felt like it was floating, no downforce/grip whatsoever.
Same Here! lol

I was going the speed of traffic on 495 S, Oxon Hill, MD area.

I really don't want to push the car any more, I'm scared to, and I have no luck at all.... Will definitely get pulled over, or crash.
