Your ebrake needs to be up and then you press the button for the top.

2 years ago in the middle of winter here in Montreal I put the top down for a few minutes because I just got the car.... and it was freezing...I didn't know how to put the top back up with the e-brake thing so I had to drive 30 mins in -15 degree C weather to get back to my garage....

so there you'll feel better now
Some of us do this intentionally.

Though I admit usually 15-20F is my limit, rather than 5F.

When I first got my used S, I wasn't going to buy it cause the top wont go down. Problem was the front latches were latched.

LOL... the e-brake feature is so that you don't ruin the top... think what would happen if someone was driving down the freeway and it started raining... so they said to themself... "oh, I'll just put the top up... 3 seconds later it gets ripped off by the 70mph wind getting trapped in it like a parachute...

I hit the cold rev-limiter on my first used S2000 test drive.

I thought the car was broken.

NO, THAT'S NOT IT!!

DON'T DO IT AGAIN!!

What you have are elastic bands that have lost their elasticity. It doesn't pull the middle bar down and when this happens FIST SIZE HOLES APPEAR IN THE TOP JUST BEHIND THE LATCHES.

Modifry has replacement bands.
Was this just some sort of Non Sequitur, or was it an attempt at humor?

If you did not hear the relay click to engage the motor, then the ebrake interlock was likely engaged. If the handle was up, check the interlock switch on the brake handle assembly. If then handle was down, then interlock working as it should.
