Default Torque and city driving.

Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a new S2000 and I've been reading in other forums how the torque of this motor makes city driving (traffic light to traffic light) a bit boring. I used to own an RSX and sold it for that reason.
I currently drive a GTI 1.8 Turbo (good torque at the bottom).
Would the S2000 in traffic conditions drive me crazy? Does anyone here uses the car in "slow" commutes?
TIA

I find it fine for city driving.

I've used mine in "bumper to bumper", slow moving traffic on hot days. You just have to learn how to "work the clutch" and keep the revs elevated a bit to avoid the "heat-soak bucking" thing. If this seems like too much work for you, get a V-8 Mustang with a slush box.

The S2000 may not "feel" as torquey as your 1.8T.

But it is more torquey down low than the RSX-S.

To me, I think it has plenty torque down low. But I'm not a V8 person. It comes down to personal preference. The best advice anyone can give is test drive it. Torque down low or not, 9000rpm (pre-04) will have you grinning like no other.

Yeah, I've read the 'no low end power makes it a crappy commuter' thing for years and I think its a load of crap after test driving one extensively a couple weekends ago. It revs so effortlessly because of the smooth engine and short gearing that you can shift around 4000-5000rpm and it will feel like 3000~ in any other car. And honestly how much tq do you need to keep up with traffic? I was shifting at 4000~ for a while and not only did it not feel like I was shifting high but I was keeping ahead of traffic. When My gf got stuck at this terribly long, creeping, steeply uphill light (45+ degrees) she still managed to start it from a stop and get moving in 2nd (on accident) without any problems and without burning the clutch up either.

FWIW it was an 01 that i tested.

you know before i purchased my S i always heard no torque this no torque that blah blah blah. i came over from an LT-1 Trans Am and was definitely a bit concerned about the torque issue as the former car had gobs of it down low. after driving it for 6 months i honestly don't see what the torque issue is. perhaps it would be a big issue if it were a four speed auto and you were always searching for a decent gear to find some power (much like my brothers auto prelude) but cmon, its a manual for a reason! learn to drive a stick and keep some revs up and there is NO PROBLEM with a low torque issue! after 6 months of ownership i still find this car much more fun to drive day to day than my Trans Am ever was, even if it won't boil the tires off in the first four gears

I've been using mine as a daily driver for the past two years and have had no issues commuting to work and school.

Yes it will. You will not be happy with the S2000 (or any other Honda for that matter). There are lots of other cars with a lot more torque that should suit your driving style much better.

Torque is more of an issue when you're trying to accelerate quickly..
