Guess I should back that up...

When I interview people, I look at a few things right off and make my decision within 5 minutes of that.

1. Shoes - brand, style, are the soles worn or did they just buy them. If they are worn then they are comfortable in that attire and not trying to show off for an interview.

2. Hair - mop, groomed, shaggy, shaved, etc.

3. Watch - make, model, polished or a little wear and scuff, a little wear is better, same with the shoes.

4. Teeth - white or yellow.

5. Eyes - whites yellowed or not.

6. Ear lobes - creased or not

7. Fingertips - clubbed or not.

8. Suit - designer, Irish pennants or not, cleaned and pressed, price tag still on it (no shit, had a few of those) did they have the common sense to take their jacket off before buckling up.

9. Glasses - Pearl Optical/Lens Crafters or private doc. (you can tell)

10. Rings - wedding or other, depending on the job they have pros/cons

11. Piercings - visible or not

12. Tats - visible or not

My wife has an antique jeweled rolex that is apparently worth a small fortune. It does nothing for me. It sits in a box and she wears it on special occasions.

She bought me a $100 watch for Christmas last year thats like some Hugo Boss or something and it will be the nicest watch I will ever own. Iwould never spend more than $40 on a watch. I could win the powerball and never spend more han $40 on a watch.

People like what they like, to each their own, but I don't get watches or ANY personal bling. My wife wanted to pick out my wedding ring and I said "Tin would be fine." Any type of jewelry is totally lost on me. That includes for men and women.

Personally, if someone puts thousands of dallars on their wrist, finger, ears or whatever to be showy it just seems like a personality defect to me. So many better uses for cash.

But some might say the same about my wish to drop about $1000 on Stormtrooper armor that will sit on a manequin in my basement as a conversation piece. So what do I know.

ow, this thread hurts my sensibilities.....don't know why I keep posting. Obviously I hang in different circles than a lot of folks here, I judge a guy on the content of his character not his "image", anyone can create an image, anyone.

If image is pantamount to a persons character, I have less to do with that person than a guy who's bringing it straght up. It's just that sort of person puts priorities on things that have no meaning to me. I like to look nice (I do generally wear jeans and khaki's), I even have a couple nice suits but as an engineer, image takes a back seat to accomplishment and presemtation. I think people who have to dress up to present an image are trying to compensate for something they feel is lacking in they're character, that's how they 'feel' they need to look to attract people to them rather than having the confidence to approach or be approached for who they are and what they're about. If the person your trying to attract puts as much importance on image then they will be looking for those things 'on' you that present what they are looking for, that's fine but in my mind that puts both of you in a needy position.

There are all sorts of circles to run with in this world, it sounds like image is important in your circle, that's cool but I would probably be shunned as I am who I am, but you know what?? I wouldn't feel comfortable in that circle to begin with and would have no interest in being a part of it, I'd rather put my $$ in property, kids, cars, investments and fun, those are the things important to me. I gotta admit, their are a couple image conscious people in my circle but they get so much sh*t from the rest of us (not hard core) it surprises me they still want to hang, even though they are fairly 'cool' folks and I wouldn't really want them to feel too bad, they still do hang out with us though and are happy to do it.

I really can't believe I've put so much effort into such a useless thread, must be that I don't really want to work and would rather start vacation tomorrow rather than Sat......

absolutely. If I were interviewing some decent guy in a JC penny's suit vs. Paris Hilton in designer clothes and a rolex and big diamonds everywhere, and made my decision on that alone, I would end up with a worthless self absorbed employee.
