3ngin33r1 pretty much admitted to illegal practices when conducting interviews. Good stuff.

i can't NOT post in this thread.

I own a Rolex, not a base spec one, and a modified (lightly) S. I run a business at the age of 23 and am shortly off to start my own business.

That aside i find it interesting the number of poeple who base their opinions around the word of cars and modifications.

The world is larger than simply cars. Those whom have teh taste and eticate to purchase a premium watch probably also have the scope to come back another few months later and purchase a s/c for their s, as and when they see a requirement.

Those whom live one month to the next, just to find their way towards a set of asm cf doors or a set of coileys will probably never truly appreciate the gravity of a decent watch, despite their taste for a quality product for their s.

you either understand or you don't.

those who do, tend not to educate.

"those who do, tend not to educate"

Pretty elitist statement.

The world is MUCH larger than some 'taste' and 'etiquette' (proper spelling also says much about a person). In terms of the 'world' watches and 'taste' mean absolutely nothing.

One of the wealthiest and powerful men I know (I worked for him for a number of years) wore a Casio and drove a Toyota, he also owns a subdivision, muliple start-ups and is a financier. He moves in pretty important circles. These are the kind of men I pattern my life after, his home is magnificent, his wife drives a Jag, he's set for life and has as much fun as he can. He knows who he is, has good taste and laughs at frivolous spending. One thing I think is different between these kind of men and others is that he's self made, no one gave him a dime and he appreciates EVERYTHING he has. People who grow up with everything tend to put more importance on those things that help create an image because they never made one of their own.

on the "gravity of a decent watch". You've got some growing up to do still if you think that is what's "grave" in this world.

And running/starting a business means nothing. Anyone can do it and hundreds of thousands of people do every year. I'm not trying to personally attack you here, but dont say you are starting a business like it gives you any more credibility on the subject of watches and "taste."

This is the funniest post yet.

C7 JFW, The world is also quite a bit larger than watches. Buying watches is a hobby for people who've got more money than they know what to do with (which it sounds like you've been born into: congrats). Buying a $5k watch is not a good idea for anyone who's got to choose a watch over FI. If the OP can't afford to do both, then he probably shouldn't do either.

That said, even if I had more money than God I wouldn't spend a dime on a watch.

A dude in our dorm many, many years ago in college owned a brand new sports car and he had a Rolex.

He lived with Mom and Dad and he went home every weekend.

When I am earning enough interest on my investments that I can piss a decent percentage of the earnings away and still not come close to having the need to work, then I might consider pissing on a Rolex (or some other watch that costs more than 30 bucks).

wow this post is becoming more than I expected..
I never said that I couldn't afford to get the FI also, i just wanted to buy/invest in something for myself and I chose the watch after thinking about which i would put more use into. i don't go to the track and I don't race the car. i wear a watch everyday, i hate using a cell phone and keep it in my bag or pocket so i chose a watch instead of turbo..
for 5grand, would i be able to get a complete turbo with install and tuning? from what i have read, it doesn't sound like it. plus, my s is my daily driver, so I decided that until i get a beater, i didn't want to put the stress on the engine.

I don't understand why buying a nice (yes it is overly expensive) watch makes me someone that cares about how i look. of course i bought the watch because i like how it looks, BUT I DIDN'T BUY IT BECAUSE IT MAKES ME LOOK GOOD - god knows it would take more than a watch to do that!!

vader - its a collector's item, just like your vader costume would be.
