Let us know what you think after driving it while. In my experience, the cosmetic changes were the least of what was done for the AP2 cars.
After you get through the break-in period, it would be interesting to get your perspective on the differences between the two in terms of performance and handling.Congrats & Drive Safe,
Steve R.
congratulations on your purchase!!
there are quite a few ohio s2k owners that were at muirfield this week watching golf
being a previous '01 s2k owner who recently switched to an '05, i can tell you that you will notice some differences. enjoy the new car and meet up with some of the columbus guys sometime
they are all good guys down there and lots of fun!! (actually, i think they are meeting at clauddagh on sat)

ouch.
So was it really worth $6000 for you? new shiny wheels, different bumper and headlights?
I'd kept the 03 and spend the money on where it matters instead. First thing first, I'd get performance brake pads and lines, R-compound tires and light wheels, Koni 2812 race shocks, Hardtop, and OEM front and rear spoiler, Sparco race seats.....list go on...
But then again that is just me. Congrats though.

Hey everyone, went to Muirfield to watch the practice round of the Memorial Golf Tournament Wednesday and it cost me $6,000! I stopped by Honda East after we left Muirfield to look at my daughter's Pilot she just purchased and they had an '04 Silverstone (my favorite color) that had not been sold, setting on the showroom floor.
They have 2 '05 Silverstones on the lot so they had a big "Priced Reduced" sticker on the windshield of the '04. Well the next thing I know, I'm taking it for a test drive. Mind you, I just purchased the '03 last August as a used car with 17k miles, Honda Certified, and almost new Goodyear F1's for $23,239. I put about 5k miles on my New Formula Red '03 since then.
When I returned from the test drive I parked the '04 beside my '03 just to see how much different they were. To the novice they will not appear that different but to an S2K owner there is a huge difference! The '04 is a lot more aggresive looking. I found it hard to believe that there was that much of a difference. The 17" wheels and meatier tires really sold me. The headlights and taillights are much cooler and the larger oval exhausts and new front and rear facias make the car so much meaner. It was almost like comparing the '01 Miata I used to own to the '03 S2K, there is that much difference IMO. The test drive didn't reveal a lot because at 192 miles on the odometer I couldn't get into V-Tech territory but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Needless to say after an hour of haggling they gave me $23,000 for my car (I drove it 9 months and lost $239!) and took $4,290 off the price of the '04. I asked what kind of a discount I could get on an '05 and they told me no more than $2,000, so although I was a little apprehensive (pre buyers remorse), I took the deal on the '04. and I am glad I did!. I love this car!!!!

And it's not like he actually "lost" 6000.... if the car depreciates ~$2-4k per year.... he moved to one year "newer" and the resale will be that much higher....
So he "lost" maybe $3000 to get 17,000 less miles... sounds like a good deal to me!
But then again, I love my AP1....

The wife and I put about 250 miles on our "new" '04 this weekend so I'm not at the 600 mile mark yet to really test what the performance difference is between it and my '03.
We can both tell a difference in the suspension. It seems less jarring over bad roads (and believe me, Ohio has plenty of them). My wife even said she could go all the way to Panama City Beach, Fla. on vacation in it!
As far as handling, our trip this weekend was to Amish country, which has a lot of narrow 2 lane roads with lots of unmarked sharp turns and this car shows absolutely no difference in it's ability to keep all fours firmly planted to the pavement. I actually feel it handles better despite the "softening" of the suspension. There is a noticeable difference in the extra torque that became evident during our trip up and down the hills of Shreve and Berlin
Yes, the $6000 was worth it. I know my original comments may have sounded like I was only interested in the cosmetic differences but that is because I didn't want to take it out and thrash it within an inch of it's life during the test drive because of the break-in requirements. Because of all the positive posts here about the performance of the '04 and '05 S2K's, I have all the confidence in the world that I will not be disappointed. Let's just say I bought it on a leap of faith.
Also I am not the kind of guy to spend $6,000 modifying a car. I'm 53 years old and just enjoy "spirited" driving in what is truly the benchmark when it comes to drop top sports cars. I have previously owned Corvettes, a Supra, a 300ZX and a Miata so I feel I know what a great sports car is. Last year I drove a Boxster S and the '03 S2K and bought the Honda! I don't see too many people heavily modifying a Boxster (unless they have driven an S2K and are trying to improve their car to match it) so I don't want to screw up a good thing. Granted, if I was 30 years younger I may feel different but I am pleased with this car just the way it is (although I may add a rear spoiler and rear speakers -- oh the excitement!).
I will post my impressions of the performance differences (if any) in the near future.
