Trade my S2000 for a 135
What would be your motivation for switching to a 135?
If I had to get a more practical car, I'd look at a Subaru Legacy or something else that's cheap and reliable. If it's a practical "status" move, I'd look at a 3 series, g37, es or gs. For fun? Well, then take it for a test drive. Personally though, I wouldn't consider a 135 if I were to switch cars as I don't really see the point or "get it" evidently.

Ok, so I'm in a similar situation. I own an 07 S2000 and I've been considering switching to a 135. Why? Well it's faster and it's a bit more practical (rear seats, bigger trunk, and I can take it skiing.)
Now regarding the looks. When I first saw pictures, I thought it was ugly. Then after looking at those pictures for long enough, I started coming around. Then when I saw the 1er in real life, it got ugly again. ESPECIALLY when they're parked next to the sleek 335 coupes. But still, looks aren't too important to me, so I proceeded...
I took it for an extended drive and it was a good one. The car is plenty fast, the car will treat you to luxury the way an S2000 never could, and the drive really is as sublime as all the news articles say it is. So will I replace my S2000? Nope. While the 135 really is a good, GOOD car, it is simply not the right car for me right now. More than anything else, I want my drive to be FUN, I want to feel like I'm go-karting every time I drive to the grocery store. The S2000 does that, but the 135 surely cannot.

I can definitely see why you'd be considering the switch. The 135 is pretty quick stock but can be easily modded to be a little monster since most of the mods for the 335i should be compatible.
On the flip side, I think the S2000 is as raw as they get when it comes to a true driver's car. Though I have not driven the 135, it probably drives similar to most of the smaller BMW's such as the M3 and 335, etc. Though BMW's are one of the best driver's cars out there, I don't think it will be as fun to drive as the S2000.
Definitely take one out for a spin to see how you like it.

Thank you all for your comments. You sum up my feelings exactly. I did test drive the 135 but it was a really short drive. The car felt nimbler than a 3 series. It felt connected to the road, responsive and quick.
But I doubt I will get the same enjoyment from it as I get from my S. I said it on the 1addicts thread. The S feels like an extension of myself. This is maybe too much but you know what I mean.

S2000 is a real drivers car.

I have not driven a 135i, and I am sure that they are really nice, fast and luxurious. But they are very expensive. For the money, the 1 doesn't make any sense over a similar 3, as the pricing and performance is too close while the size and 'car' are too different. I lived w/ a new BMW for a few years. I don't believe they are as reliable as the Hondas.
My advice: keep the S. Save the money. Gas prices are going UP!

No, the I35 is just today's flavor. It's in all the magazines and everyone just HAS to have one. And it's ugly to boot. I'd still rather have a slightly used e46 m3 for less. Stick with the S.
I wouldn't do it.
For me, I had the chance to spend some good time with nice torquier cars. I loved how those cars make city driving so easy, and the feeling of driving a Porsche/BMW in this materialistic world. I really felt like buying one of them at the moment. However, when I hop back on to my S ... then I figured the torque and all that weren't worth it compared to what I'm getting out of the S -- the smile on my face.
In short, I felt happy when I drive those cars; I get excited when I drive the S2000.
No offence to other cars. I personally believe the 135 is a great car. But I feel that 135 is just like any other "new" car out there. It's a great car because it has so much power in a small car, and one gets the excitement from it because it's new.
2 years later when BMW comes out with a newer car, you would feel that the current 135 is dated and the new car is more fun to drive, because the new car has more luxury features and has more power. Whereas the S2000 has a certain characteristic to it that it's not just about being a new car, and that new cars don't have anymore.
I feel as excited about the S2000 as I did when it first came out in 2000. Whereas my interest in other cars come and go with newer cars coming out to the market every year.
Anyway, that's just me. Some think that I'm crazy about the S, and that I should marry my S. You may not be as crazy about the S as I do, and you may enjoy the 135 more than I would
