Default Trade in question... please help!

So I have to get rid of the S2000 because we're expecting our second baby in May! The worst part is I just bought the car last June and have logged less than 6K miles! Anyway, the situation is that I'm looking at VW GTI's as a compromise because I owe so much still on the S2000, and I need something I can roll negative equity into and still be affordable
The dealer has offered me $25.5K... is this a raw deal or typical for a southern cal dealer? The car is pristine, and has under 6000 miles. They have a Honda dealer who they said they talked to and that was the buy bid from Honda. Should I try and locate my own buy bid and then tell the VW dealer to hook it up with whomever I find a better offer from?

Any suggestions from people knowledgable or experienced with this situation is HUGELY helpful.

Thanks!

you will always get less by trading in or selling to a dealer since they have to resell at a profit...
you are better off selling it yourself (of course that takes time and is a hassle).

Just a suggestion, but it may be an idea to look at a 4 door because it's easier to get into the back seat with baby stuff etc... WRX is good for the money.
