Default the TSB for driver's window

I know there's a TSB out for the driver's window not coming all the way down when you put the top down or use the auto down function. The funny thing is, my car is an '01 with about 10,000 miles and I just developed that problem now. My question is too fold; is there any reason why the car would not develope this problem until later on? and also, when they perform the TSB, do they need to take apart the door or anything. The reason I ask is because when I upgraded my door speakers I had put a lot of duct tape over that clear plastic sheeting (that keeps moisture/etc. from going through the door) to keep it from vibrating when I turn up the stereo. If they need to go into the door to perform the TSB, I don't want them thinking all the mess I put in there has anything to do with the window not operating properly...

I had the TSB and mine's an 02. Don't know if they have to take apart the door, I believe so.

The worst part is that when they took my car in for service, some idiot scratched the front bumper and they replaced my bumper which is cool, but now the paint doesn't match and the in moron at the paint shop said he'd call but of course he hasn't yet and it's been 2 weeks.

yes it takes awhile for the switch to burn out...
and they do take the door apart-
they will know that its not something you did- all of our cars have this problem. if they give you a hard time, go to another dealer!

I have a 2000 and it took until March of this year to develop this problem. It started for me when the "auto down" function would no longer work. Honda "fixed" it with a wonky reset solution. This worked fine for a month. This past weekend I found that not only does the auto down not work anymore, but I have developed the problem with the top control button. It either won't put the window down, or it will only go down part of the way. So, the answer is yes, the problem can definitely occur later in your ownership life. Funny thing is that my warranty expired less than a month before this problem occurred. Fortunately Honda is honoring this as a warranty item anyway.

There have been lots of posts on this topic - it's frequently mis-diagnosed as a switch problem and sometimes seems fixed because it can be very intermittent in the beginning.

The failure is inside the motor, where it generates a signal to tell the switch that the motor is running. When the signal is present the switch continues to apply power, when the signal stops the switch turns off the power. When the signal generating circuitry fails, the switch turns off power prematurely if the signal is weak or missing.

The convertible top uses the same auto-down circuit for the driver's window, so that's why it quits on convertible top operation too.

If you are out of warrenty it's cheaper to install a window control module to regain the auto-down feature, and it gives you auto-up too. See the new Product Review forum for more info on the Auto-loc window controller.
