The guy in the S unlatched his top manually (you can see him doing it w/ both hands) and was still able to get it down quicker than the Z4.
What I mean is that the Z4's top is "Fully" Automatic and the S2k's top has a mechanical release and automatic fold function. So, the S2k's top might be the fastest manual and mechanically operated top.

I think it's true because the S top requires manual unlatching from the windshield frame. The Z4 does it all automatically.
Ya I hear ya. In reality, it doesn't really matter, the roof on both cars comes down pretty quickly for a motorized roof. Can't compare to the Miata which will pretty much beat anything

I always get a laugh out of that "race" though -- Actually that entire show is funny, plus they review the M3 CSL in that episode.

I don't really care which top is faster. I do enjoy the motorized operation and good design, of which our cars have a lot inside and out.

Yeah, they are manual.....that sucks lol
It's not the fact that it's manual as much as it is that the design require the driver to leave and re-enter the vehicle twice to operate the top in either direction.

The MX-5 has a very well designed manual soft top that most people can operate easily from their seat with one hand.

I 've read that, between the Sky and the Solstice, the Sky is a little better quality . . . but I think the look of the Solstice is funky-er and really more to the point of having a roadster.
Wow! That's off topic.

^^ there's no trunk space with the top down? what kind of bs engineering is that? weak
It's called form over function. Apparently GM was going for a very clean look with the top stowed at the expense of ease of use and storage.

Different strokes for different folks, but it makes the car useless for me.
