That engine is up in the cabin. I don't think wearing seat belts or airbags could help them. I heard runing into somthing at 30 mph to a quick stop is like jumping off a 5 story building.

It's hard for me to feel too sorry for someone who can't take the five seconds to buckle their seatbelt. It's even worse when you drive like this guy apparently was. It's just natural selection at work.

No. The engine is mostly behind the X-brace and the X-brace is not strong enough to stop a force that could push the engine under the car in that way. In short, the engine would miss the x-brace and even if it hit it, it was bend the X-brace out of the way.
