I send my condolences to their families. I mourn their passing.

My brother and I used to own a 74' 2.0 914. He had a unfortunte accident..perhaps 60 MPH+ head on into a telephone pole..The telephone pole broke in half.. As did the 914. It was a horific accident that tore the mid mounted engine/tranny from there mounts. (actutally riped the magnesium tranny case just just ahead of the rear mounts) and the engine continued moving untill it hit /bent the bulkhead behind the seat. The car was literally unrecognisable to his high school buddys who went down to the scene after hearing sirens. They later found out it was there good friend. (There power was also knocked out) It was the worst car wreck I have ever seen. (It took two tow trucks to take it to the police impound) He was wearing his sealt belt and has made a full recovery.. SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES..There was a BLACK bruise the size of a basketball on his hip where the seatbelt caught him. Broke a leg, foot, ect..ect..
