I'll go ahead and tell you, it has a better chance of holding long term if you patch it from the outside as well as the inside. No, it doesn't look pretty, but it sure beats $1500 for a new top.

I delayed patching my top properly and I had a tear stretch from 1" long to 3" long. It now is very difficult to keep patched properly and I'll probably have to get it replaced. Far better to play it safe early

You might give this a try, using a piece of top fabric much like in your picture.

Similar to this stuff:

Aqua seal
Do you know if it can withstand 100+ degree weather? That has been one of the big problems with the sealants I've used. Whenever it got hot out they would stretch and allow the top to continue to tear.

That's a good point, I can't say mine has experienced 100+ degrees yet, and rarely will. This summer I'll see plenty of 90+ days, but that doesn't help you out much... I can say though, that a frame bar passes over mine whenever I lower/raise the top, and the patch hasn't shifted or peeled a bit. It's designed to be permanent, dries pretty hard (still flexes though, for the neoprene) and has been stronger than black silicone in my experience.

Hopefully something can keep it solid, that heat's a killer!

THIS...your straps are the reason your top's messed up...period. For the time being you need to manually pull the bar back each time you drop the top.

Top replacement is $818 + shipping + installation. There are a few guys on the forum that could help if they are in your area.
