That's funny because I saw some guy at the track dump his whole engine out the exhaust due to a mechanical overrev in an elise. Nice giant fireball from all the oil exiting the exhaust.
Well, OK, nothing is totally fool proof, but it is a heck of a lot harder to miss a shift when the gates are a little wider.

who teaches people to drive stick? i have NEVER missed a 3-4 shift in my life, regardless of how fast i shifted. i really don't understand how the stick could migrate that far to the left that it ends up in 2nd gear. pull STRAIGHT BACK and the transmission will go from 3rd to 4th gear. it's not like there are any secrets to this shift. it's pulling straight back, NOT towards yourself. maybe i'm being unreasonable here.

Well, glad he found out his bent valve was #4 rather than destroying his engine.

ok just did a compression test, thankfully its not as bad as i thought it would be, cylinder 1 2 and 3, ran 210psi where cylinder 4 had a whopping 10psi. So obviously its just those valves, i would only need to replace those 4 valves in cylinder 1 right? I know it would be better to replace all of them but 210 seems about normal, also read the code with an obd2 scanner and read cylinder 4 misfire. i know it would be a good idea to replace all of them but if its not necessary i rather hold off on it right now. My mechanic said that the valves are only slightly bent and the ticking isnt that loud for it to break off the valve. He did say it was driveable but i would be getting horrible gas mileage running on 3 cylinders, im still not going to take my chances though.

BTW red_mx5 thanks for the help i really appreciate, and everyone else who tried to help.

edit: i checked and valves are alot cheaper than i thought intake valves $12 and exhaust is $20
blinking cel due to misfire usually means you can take out the cat because of all the unburnt gases going into it.. and was not meant to handle that much.. dont think your mech knows that . and if he did i guess he was gonna sell you a cat after you fried it

I think it applies to all of us at times. All my life, I've been terrified of high places. As I got older, I realized this isn't such a bad thing for a guy who trips and falls a lot.

I don't trip and fall a lot, and I'm not abnormally afraid of heights, but getting on a tall step ladder scares the crap out of me. I'd rather free-climb a tree than get on a tall ladder. It's odd how we can be so afraid of some things that are so benign.
