Valentine 1 user mounting question?
Greg,
I would go to the Valentine web site and e-mail them for specifics on the tinting, however I think what you are referring to (in general terms) are tints that use metallic compounds such as chromium based tints. These are typically associated with top-of-the-windshield tints that have a blue-ish green tint.
The other type of tinting that usually interferes with the antennae is the InstaClear style window de-icer systems. In this case, a layer of metal around 1 micron thick is deposited across the entire windshield, and electric current is run through as a windshield de-icer/defogger. These windshields have usually had an orange or rose colored tint to them, but I don't see them too frequently. This stuff is death to radar detectors.
Anyway, a little update on my progress. I stopped into my local Honda dealership to order a new upper compartment lid to perform surgery on. I found out that you could only order the entire compartment console (everything from the tunnel on up) as one unit. However it was only list price of $98 plus a shipping charge, wow. I should have it in a week and start hacking and cutting the upper lid for my V1.

What about a bracket that utilized the mounting points for the aeroscreen. Tat way you could avoid cutting the top cover and you would still have access to the upper bin. One other point. If this is something you think you might market it would be nice if it had some kind of universal mounting system so you could also sell to non-V1 owners
Thanks
Thanks
Well, then to avoid the tint issue...you could always replace the clear perspex with a smoked perspex. This is not tint, but rather a coloring that they put into the plastic.
Wouldn't want it too dark so as to affect your rear view though.
