Default Radar detector question

While I'm waiting anxiously to be rid of my silver '01 Prelude for my silver '02 s2000, I've been reading regularly through this site. My wife is ready to kill me. The s2000 should be here just after Xmas, but I can't wait!

Anyways, I've been extremely pleased with my Passport 7500 (and am somewhat unwilling to buy an expensive new remote unit), but I'm concerned how to plug-in and/or mount it in the s2000.

Any suggestions on how I can mount it?

I would prefer to keep it up front and not have a cord dangling across the center of the car. (BTW, I have the SmartCord, it's rather handy and would like to keep using it.)

Should I have a second lighter plug installed? Anyone do that?

Thanx
-Az

staffordaz,

I have the Passport in my S2K, and I believe I ordered the accessory long power cord with the remote unit attached. Anyway, I wired it into my fusebox and ran the cord up along the a-pillar then across the top of the windshield under a convenient rubber gasket that hides the cord quite nicely. The detector is mounted just to the right of the mirror, great location, but alas as many have noted, the windshield mount on the 7500 is less than outstanding, and the detector often slips out of the proper "click" on the bracket. Otherwise it's a great set-up. Keeps the accessory power outlet free for other things and no annoying cord hanging down or up anywhere.

You have a straight (not curled as in a telephone) cord?

Thanx

I have a passport with a hard wire to the interior fuse block so it is on with the ignition. Just used an old piece of phone wire, identified the leads that carry power. Ran the wire underneath the cowling across the windshield from the right side of the mirror down to the fuses. I think the FAQs contain more detail.

I used a phone cord hard-wired to the fusebox. W/ this car, I'd recommend an upgrade to an 8500 at least. I have both, and the 8500 is far superior...the 7500 goes in my truck, which is OK since I don't drive it as fast.

Turns out that for $10 I can get a cord from Escort. Shipping would be $2.50, but living in Cincinnati actually has a benefit. Escort is headquartered here.

Turns out that the $10 cord is 8 feet long, straight (not curled) and has bare wires on one end to connect into the fuse box.

Thanx all for the suggestions.
