Vibration at Low Speed with Snow Tires -- Normal?
#1
Just came back from having my snows installed on my car. Used Konig rims with yoko Guardex 600s on all four corners in the stock tire sizes. In addition to the added road noise from the tires, I'm experiencing vibration and shudder at around 35 mph when I throttle lightly. Is this common with this car and snow tires?
Anyone experience this kind of problem? Also, I do notice a "heavier" feel to the car.

Got pics of those rims.
I feel the car is heavier too. My car just tracks totally differently at speed. Little more shaking(no noise increase) but over 70+ car wants to take off in the direction you turn the wheel no gradual thing. So its hard to control at high speed very uncomfortable. Cant wait to get summer tires on again!

No such problem on my '93 Prelude using Yokohama Guardex 600's 195/60/15 all four corners.
Did you consider less aggressive tires than the standard size for your winter tires? When I bought my snows, Discount tire direct suggested the narrower ones.

You may have an offset problem with your rims. Check the proper specs with your Honda dealer (can anyone on this board help?)
As for Guardex 600's, IMHO you'd be way better off on Michelin Pilot Alpins. I have Arctic Alpins (lower-performance brothers to Pilot Alpins) on both my non-S2K vehicles (96 Grand Voyageur, '90 Legend). They are the quietest, best handling (dry/wet/snow) safest snow tires I've ever had the pleasure to own. They're totally stable up to / past 90 MPH - and that's enough for me for the winter!

Just had 4 Blizzak MZ-01's installed on the alloys and am amazed that lower speed handling is fine/ no noise increase over the summer 02's.
What is a source for the Konig rims mentioned? I didn't think any steel wheels were available for the stook.

Perhaps the Konigs are just heavy and not balanced properly? I think the S2K is especially sensitive to weight imbalance due to the high offset design of the wheels and suspension.

My Stook should arrive at the dealership by early December and I'm also thinking of using the MZ-01 on the OEM wheel. Could you comment further on the impression of the dry road handling as you put some miles on? Thanks.
