2. shortens the life of the engine by about 82%

Where the hell do you guys come up with this crap! I'll bet 80% (as long as we're making up numbers) of the cars bought from the dealer have been VTEC'd early. Get a grip, you'll be fine.

I agree

I'm willing to bet that the engines were run harder than most people run them in the first couple of test miles. I don't think that specifically hitting VTEC is going to make a difference. I think the major reason to 'break in' an engine is to get it to go through the heating/cooling (expansion/contraction) cycles enough times to prevent damage to the block, head, or seal between them.

Please tell me you beat the sh!t out of this person.
(I wanted to!) But, instead...I had some words with my service advisor and quit going back there. It was First Texas Honda in Austin, TX. Seems they have a policy of test driving every car. I bet if it was an Odyssey getting an oil change, they wouldn't have bothered. The service advisor looked bothered. There was another service advisor though who went out of his way to take care of his customers. If my car should need work, probably, I will change to the other service advisor. I haven't needed any work done that needs the dealer yet.

I think that was the point.
Sorry , I've been on this board so long I can't tell sarcasm from reality anymore. I've read lots of post that people really meant when it sounded so stupid.
