Default VTEC Problems in 1st gear!

Help! This doesn't happen every time but about one in four times when I reach about 6500rpms the engine cuts out almost as if the fuel cutoff activated. This is on an 03 s2k with 19k miles. It's only happened in 1st gear so far.

Has this happened to anybody? If so, what is the resolution?

Patrick

Does it happen to be right when you get in the car and start driving?

The car has to be properly warmed up before the VTEC engages. It seems as if the engine is hitting redline in 6500.

Just drive until your engine temp lights go on then you'll be fine to go up to 9k

Uh oh. Check your oil level, Patrick. You might be low.

Otherwise, are you sure your cars warmed up to "three bars" before trying this? You shouldn't attempt VTEC on a cold engine -- and the ECU will slap you if you try.

It's to save your car from you.

I agree with Chaz, check that oil level!

Yeah how would you like to be ripped out of bed and to be forced to run a couple of sprints.

Either you didn't let the engine warm up or you're low on oil.
