Warranty for 5 Years Plus 100k Additonal
United Warranty Wholesalers
$195 down + $122.50 x 18 months (Total $2400) with $100 deductible.
It covers the Engine, Tranny, Drivetrain, Suspensions, Waterpump, Alternator, etc.
For the next 5 years or for an additional 100,000 miles, which ever comes first.
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with 84,xxx miles so this means my truck will be covered until 2012 or 184,xxx miles. It is also transferable. It is accepted on all Ford dealership or ASC Certified repair shops anywhere in the US.
However, there is a waiting period of 1000 miles and 90 days from the date of purchase before the first claim can be made.
Does this sound like a good deal?

IMHO, no, they will always try to wiggle there way out of fixing your car. A truck with that many miles is going to have a lot of wear and tear items go bad. Then you are going to be stuck fixing it yourself anyways.
Mathematically, any extended warranty package will not be a good deal, it has to be in order for the dealer to make money.
However, if something major goes wrong with your car, you will laugh at the numbers and be glad you had one.
What you are paying for is piece of mind, is it worth it? I dont know, is it to YOU?
Personally, I ALWAYS decline extended warranties regardless of what I buy.

Being its a '97 and a Ford, I EXPECT things to start breaking. I actually have a couple of things I needed done that I have been putting off. I could definitely use the extended warranty. The only question is will I have problem putting claims in or the dealer having problem approving the claim?
Personally, I'm amazed that large chunks of the vehicle are not falling off already. For this vehicle I would really consider the warranty. Just check out the fine print, make sure they're not actively trying to screw you.
I know I will make good use of that warranty. I will try it. If I see something that does not look right I can cancel it within 30 days and only lose $75 for processing fee. I think its worth a shot. The only thing that worries me is if my claim gets denied for some reason then I would be stuck with the warranty and the dealer service cost which is major $$$.
