well,

I had this squeaking noise from the accessory drive... dealer found it to be a water pump...

Nice thing about it is the quick turnaround and that is IS under warranty...

also, I get a new drive belt and my car would have been due for a coolant service soon (2 yr flush and refill)... thats getting done since they have to drain the coolant to do the water pump...

all in all, its a bit shocking to have one going bad after 17k miles, but good thing its under warranty...

The best way to describe it would be a squeak during the revolution of the pulley...

maybe you've pushed a shopping cart around a grocery store and it has a bad wheel... goes squeak squeak at the same point in each revolution of the wheel?

the service advisor told me that they took the belt off and spun each pulley... the water pump made the exact sound I was hearing...

That sounds about right(forgive the pun). RX-7's go through water pumps every 40K miles like clockwork. I have a feeling this one won't be as easy to remove.

WOW! I had an '81(150k miles) and an '86(180k miles) and both went through water pumps at 40k miles. Maybe its the Texas heat.

I wanted a TurboII when they came out. Did you happen to get the special White anniversary edition? That was the one color that I liked the most. The Rotary engine was so smooth.
