Leaving my folks house for X-mas, I drove up from Houston to Dallas yesterday afternoon, and let me say, it sucked...
It rained ((hard)) for the entire 270 miles. I had always wondered what people we talking about when they said the S02's had poor wet traction. I understand what they mean now.
Believe it or not, this was my first experience driving on a highway in the rain. I used to think the wet traction was rather good, never thinking about high speeds and hydroplaning. I must have hydroplaned for a quarter of a mile total. I will never drive this car at highway speeds in the rain ever again. That is until I get new tires.
Very nerve racking and a 4 hour trip took 6.5 hours. Do the math to get my average speed to fully understand my pain.
Oh, and to ad insult to injury, I installed my Spoon STB and X-brace while I had access to my Dad's lifts. Didn't even
get a real test drive.

I've been in light rain before, but last night I kept the speed slow and easy returning to Austin from Ft. Worth. My trip sucked as well, but not nearly as bad as yours did.
I only have a hair under 2800 miles (had the car 3 weeks and five days, today) so I've still got plenty of meat on the s02's but I dont want to risk it one bit. I just made sure that I took it easy and didn't hydroplane.
My Miata on the other hand, it would have hydroplaned the entire way back - even with a set of good SP8000's all around.

I solved my hydroplaning problem by changing the tires. I went to Kuhmo 712's.
I tested it again this morning doing 75mph to work.
Something I only tried once with the S02's
