I've never noticed a difference from any of the major brands in my S or any other car; air temperature seems to have a much bigger influence on performance and mileage. In this neck of the woods (SW CT) Citgo is usually cheaper, plus they and Sunoco and Hess come from Venuzualan oil fields, if you want want to make a political statement.

I actively avoid Citgo and Hess - Pure Venezuelan gas doesn't go in my car if I can help it, but thats more political then about the gas quality.

BP is okay, Shell or Texaco if I can find it - using the gas price websites helps to see where the prices and stations are.

Here's a list by company of what percentage of crude oil imports came from the Persian Gulf during the first half of 2006:

http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petrole...ummary2006.html

I'll add other lists like this that show the source if I can find them.

Here is a list of the top 15 countries that petroleum is imported from:

http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petrole...ent/import.html

It appears that lots of import data can be found here:

http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/d...historical.html

A brief writeup of where gas comes from:
